Well our school had this bright idea that if ONE person in a whole class didn't have an ID, they would send the whole class to in house suspension. Which sucks becuase you have to write sentences. So I thought, hey, what the heck, why not protest it. So I started handing out flyers that said:

Fri. Feb 4th, 2005
<b>NO ID DAY!!!</b>
Protest IDs
"They can't stop us all"

And man it was the talk of the school. I think at the most I can get around 200 of the 950 kids at my school to do it. But some of the teachers found some of those fliers and supposedly they were pointing me out. But they can't punish me for anything becuase one, they have no proof that I passed out the fliers. And two, what are they going to write me up for? "Exercising his political freedom" ??? I'll let y'all know how it goes. Any ideas or suggestions?

I agree with you, although I am more of a pacifist and I resort to writing e-mails and letters to administrators, rather than starting protests.

There's no mistaking that your school is being treated unfairly; I hope you get the resolution you wish.

Good for you, and I say this seriously. We had to wear these tags around our necks in one of my school districts(This was a school district with a few hundred people total, mind you) for "security" purposes. They had our lunch tied into those, which was the only practical use of them, yet we would get suspended if caught with them off. I hope it goes well, and you should probably ensure they will all go through with it and not just say they will =P

Meh, I have to do something to keep my self entertained. Last semester I bombarded all of the lockers, fire alarms, mirrors, bathrooms, stairs, doors, windows, EVERYTHING with various stickers from Mickey D's (where I work, I jacked them). A few weeks ago it was street magic. And now its this thing. The Friday before spring break I am organizing an Outlaw Scavenger hunt (a la Viva la Bam). They did it last year and I'm continuing the tradition. Any other ideas similar to mine that you guys have done at your school or just thought of right now?

That's ridiculous... Why not tattoo bar codes onto students and flog them if they come to class without one imprinted on their flesh? Disgraceful behavior. We are human beings, we are not devices to be placed into files and managed.

Evil! Write letters to your school administrators. Talk to your guidance counselor, principal, supernintendant, and if they would be sympathetic to your cause, parents.

My school is well respected. It was built last year, and was the first school in the nation to deploy handheld computers to each and every student and staff member in the building. Our standardized test scores reached just below the highest in the state our first year of existence.

(Sorry I love to brag because I love my school! ^_^ )

Any hoo, what I'm trying to say is we don't have any real 'traditions' as of yet since we're so new.

I don't think our student body is very hostile, though, so I doubt anything will arise anytime soon.

Probably because that would draw too much attention =P

Why would your school require you to have IDs :P? Worse yet why would they punish a bunch of uninvolved people from someone elses action? It's scary that the idiots who come up with this nonsense are responsible for teaching others.

Wow, I hate to see what you guys think happens when you get a job. You know, in an office with a name tag and security pass? It's precisely because human beings tend to be so ornery that they must be filed and managed. I guarantee tags are a better than school shootings and gang violence. If you have a problem with the school's actions get parents involved- the school systems usually listen to the taxpayers. Not students making mischief. That actually tends to encourage the opposite...

So, if some brain dead arse-head doesn't bring his little barcode to class, everyone gets nailed?

I don't know where you're from but that's nonsense altogether.

you're kids. you're not the first kid to challenge school policies, and like others, odds are you'll fail because the government gives schools the right to do things that they think are in your best interest. Your best bet is to lobby to get the policy changed to only punish the person who doesn't have their Id, but personally, I find it hard to believe your school passed a rule that punishes the whole class, because parents would've known about it, and you can bet some of the would've challenged it by now*.

*unless every student's parents are utter retards, but I doubt that's the case.

Our school requires us to have ID's to get into school fucntions such as dances (The Prom, Homecoming, etc...). Of course, we're open-campus: they aren't too over-controlling.

Your schools must suck badly. The school district in which I reside is extremely diplomatic, and listens to each and every student.

Our principal disliked people playing hacky-sack in the halls of our school. So, she asked the entire group of "hackers" as they call themselves, to come to a private meeting with her and discuss a solution. She offered free pizza to all involved. They discussed it, and eventually a compromise was made.

Yeah. I agree, though, that's probably your best bet.

Same here. Plus, you have to stand in the "slow" line at lunch if you don't have your card ;)

We have to go to the back of the line at lunch. I mean the BACK. :'(
Have you not learned that children do no get rights? Dispite the constitution, you have absolutly no rights what so ever. I made it though childhood and they still try to hold me to that, but I don't let them. Our school trys to require my mom to sign everything. I am 18 and my own legal gardian, there is nothing they can say about it. They did, however, refuse to give me a parking pass (for MY car, that I own, and is in MY name) without my mothers permission. I was very angry about that. I am an adult and should be granted all the rights of one.

I can understand that in a large organization, but in a small school district it's stupid. Also, I'm 19. I have a job. I've had several jobs. I'm an IT tutor right now for my college. I'm not one to complain about things unless I really see them as poinltess.

The school doesn't have gang violence, but think if it did? How much help would that really give? "Oh no someones shooting, check his ID-tag we will know who he is!" A bit late by then, don't ya think?

That's ridiculous. You only need one accomplice to get this straightened out. If your parents wouldn't really care if this happened to you, then you might want to make sure your accomplice's parents do. The one of you two whose parents care more about these types of things should go to class with your ID, the other shouldn't. When they send you to IHS, tell them how stupid this idea is, if the don't listen, send in the big guns the next day (parents). It'll be changed before you know it. =)

We had to wear IDs at my school, but I don't recall ever getting into trouble for not bringing one (I inevitably forgot it quite a few times). There may have been a lunch line use for it, but I always ate out of the vending machines anyway. =\
