I read Fallout 3 had died yet again, but I hate internet rumors and I don't know what to trust.

Does any other fan of the game series know?
Shouldn't this be in Gaming?
Last I heard Bethesda got the rights to do Fallout 3 though I doubt with them doing it won't be very similiar to the previous two :P.

Well the screens released a month or two ago were freakin beautiful, so I'm hopeful.

We've had a Fallout fan game or two in progress, right?

Would be nice to see one of those go somewhere. BYOND is a pretty good system for that.
Oh they put out some screen shots? could you link us to them? Id like to see.

First of all, let me note that there are two "Fallout 3" 'games'. Fallout 3 is being developed/produced/whatevered by Bethesda. Fallout 3 (Van Buren) was being developed/produced/etc by Black Isle Studios/Interplay. From the two main Fallout fansites I trust, I haven't seen a single scrap of a screenshot of the F3 being developed by Bethesda, but it's going to be crap. Based off of Morrowind, first-person, D&D style skills and stats, no SPECIAL stats. Anyways, I found a couple of screenshots from Van Buren, which is now 100% dead. There is no chance of it ever being released, but you can look at them and sob.

I dunno, I don't really like the whole 3d aspect. It's just not gritty enough for me to be Fallout. Everything's way too clean, even in the outdoor scenes.

I don't know where you got your information its wrong. I finally found a site (I used to have book marked) that I trusted, they usually have very good and detailed info.

Mertek is right about the Fallout 3 by Black Isle. Called Van Buren. It was cancled and rumors say it was ready to be put out into the market when it was cancled. Why a company would spend that much money only to have it cancled is byond me.

Perhaps there is a developer or two out there that has like a print of Van Buren. Its happened before with games that were cancled at the last moment.

As for Bethesda, they have already addressed some of Mertek's concernes, I call them such because what he said isn't completly true.

Bethesda has already stated it will not be using the Morrowind Engine for Fallout 3, that they have a brand new one that they have developed they will use for it.

Second of all I found some screen shots of Bethesda's Fallout 3 which they have kept Isometric. The game looks very nice so far.

What does worry me is that there are alot more command windows then usual for a Fallout game, and I notcied there is a number of group formation windows also.

I hope they don't force players to be in a group. I always liked to play Fallout as a Loner and once and awhile pick up some guy to use as a shield.

Only time will really tell I guess.

Mind posting a link?

I'd like to see some of those screen shots myself. Everyone over at "No Mutants Allowed" ( www.nma-fallout.com ) seems to assume that it's being made with the same game engine as Oblivion. I don't know why they assume this, but it seems common-knowledge among them.

Lemme look around I know I still have it book marked.

I don't like No Mutants Allowed. They like to post whatever they can find, even if they cant make sure its valid or not.

Yeah. They've been catching a lot of flak from the Duck and Cover community, it seems. Recently, mainly because of NMA's attachment to Van Buren and leaking out some concept art and screenshots of it, which DAC says is extremely stupid because Van Buren won't ever be produced.

Personally, I'm waiting on Fan-made Fallout 3, using the Fallout 2 engine.

I am still looking for that book mark, believe me, when you have like 13 pages of book marks, it gets hard some times.

I was thinking on doing a Fan game with the fallout 2 engine based on the Dark Tower series myself.

Whatever happened to Byond's Fallout Online? Its like, they began beta testing it, and when no one liked the demo, they just stopped.

The art they did for it was wounderful, Id be willing to buy the source.

Of course the Van Buren project was cancelled, Black Isles went before Interplay even went. The rumored release problems with Van Buren was that workers for BI were angry about their pay and unfair work conditions from Interplay, and Interplay didn't have enough money to release the game.

Plus, I want to see a reliable source of where you heard that Bethseda wasn't using the SPECIAL system for Fallout 3, I've heard nothing about them leaving that out in the rain, why buy the liscense if you are going to mix it with an entirely different one?

No it isn't. From the interview at GameSpot with Bethesda's Todd Howard:

GS: Your release said that Fallout 3 will be developed alongside the next Morrowind. Will they be based on the same engine?

TH: We've been developing some new technology for a long time now that could be used in many games, so we plan on using that. It is not the Morrowind engine.

GS: Morrowind was a first-person, real-time, action RPG. Fallout and its sequel were isometric-view, third-person, turn-based RPGs. What will Fallout 3 be?

TH: Too early to say. We're looking at many options.

GS: Fallout had many unique elements for an RPG, including its extensive (and iconic) perk system and darkly comic tone. Will those be present in the sequel?

TH: Oh, yes. Most definitely. "Bloody Mess" is the best perk ever, where your enemies die in ultraviolent ways.

This guy is obviously retarded, Todd Howard or whatever. Bloody Mess was probably the most retarded perk ever, and he seems to be fascinated with the idea of seeing the same animation over and over. "Hey, my enemy died in a big bloody mess! AGAIN!" What should I expect from the idiot who brought us Morrowind, the king of stupidly repetitive games. In order to gain skill, you basically hold down a key in order to repeat some action over and over. Want to gain athletic skill? Find a pole in the water (the one holding the dock up where you start out is good), get in the water, aim towards the pole, and hold down the forward button. Walk away, and come back an hour later. Skill!

Amazing.

and hold down the forward button.

Bah no need to hold down a button :P. q will make you continually try to move forward.
