The catholic faith has never done any good for the world, so I cant see how it's puppet leader can be mourned by people who do not follow the catholic cult.

I'm certainly not Catholic, but I still find your over-simplification and belittling of a major world religion disgusting.

Go Kujila! >_>
Jack_Attack's posts did make me want to smack him. <_<
Rest in peace, man! I hope you get the afterlife you were expecting. =)

On a more secular note... please try not to start any religious flamewars, I just had to delete half this thread. Thanks!
I enjoy history and this is indeed history. Although I am not Catholic (I'm a Born-again Christian) this is a part of history. I hope he rests in peace and it seems he did not die painfully because he lost coinsciousness before he passed. And I am happy of that. No person should have to die painfully, a person's end should be smooth. May he rest in peace...

i, too, am not a catholic cultist, but John Paul had done *quite* a lot of good in the world, contrary to popular belief. he was one of the major contributing factors to the fall of Communism in eastern Europe/Asia. and he was far more tolerable of other religions than his predecessors, while still maintaining a strong/strict doctrine of his own faith. i may not agree with the preachings of his cult, but these things are respectable indeed.

Not to pick or anything but, what exactly is a born-again christian?

The term is based on a Bible verse that says something like "you must be born again." The idea behind it is that everyone has a natural birth that brings him into the world, but when one takes the step of placing his faith in Christ it is a second birth. The term is commonly (and incorrectly, I think) used as a synonym for "fundamentalist."

In simple terms, we are born into sin and until we accept Jesus as our Lord and savior we may be born again.

John 3:5 "Jesus answered Nicodemus, "I can guarentee this truth: No one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the spirit."

1 Peter 1:23 "You have been Born-again, not from a seed that can be destroyed, but through God's everlasting word that can't be destroyed..."

Titus 3:5 "he saved us, but not because of anything we had done to gain his approval. Instead, because of his mercy he saved us through the washing in which the Holy Spirit gives us new birth and renewal."

Why is it that people consider Catholics to be a cult? To be sure, the word culture has cult as a root word, and in that sense, there is definately a catholic culture, but in that vein, any religious system has a "cult"ure.

To be more exact, any christian religion which split from the catholic church is a splinter group derived from catholic teachings. Perhaps the best example would be the formation of the church of england due to the actions of Henry the eighth. If it goes to say that catholics are a cult, then all derivatives must be as well. English is a germanic language, but not German itself.

Here is what dictionary.com has to say... http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=cult

Charismatic leader? You got them there. Extremist? There is a billion of them! Certainly not a majority, but at least equals with the Buddist and the Muslim faiths. Probably more of them than whatever faith you profess. False? None of us can ever really know. Living in an unconventional manner? Pretty hard to pick one out on the street.

Anyway, Been meaning to ask that for a while, and I figured I could get a decent civil answer out of you, moreso than someone else. The other thing that confused me as a kid is why Jews consider themselves a race, but I finally got a good answer about that a few years ago. Please ignore any hostility in my statements, none intended.
