I just bought World of Warcraft and have not played it yet. Instead, I want to know one thing before I install it (I know, it is stupid I bought it first, but they have a money back guarantee thing), is this game any good? Also, do I have to pay to play it Online?
Oh my God you bought it and you didn't even know if it was Pay-to-play?

It's supposed to be pretty good, I just am not willing to shell out the money for the game AND the monthly fee.

It's a very good game in the MMOG genre, and a particularly good one to start with if you haven't played another.

You can only play it online, and after the first month there will be a monthly fee.

Soooo...is it pay to play or not? Gathering from what you said, I would think it was pay-to-play. So, thanks anyway. =P

Are you that dumb? Read the dang boxes next time.

First off, most MMORPGs are free for for one month after that you have to pay a montly fee.

Also if you decide you don't like the game, you cant return it, and I believe in the user agreement it is technally illegal to re-sell your software to someone else. At least, thats the way EverQuest Works.

Finally, I didn't like World of Warcraft. Warcraft was always to me, about epic people, doing epic things. And in a sense, killing dangerous, monsterous things.

What kind of damn MMORPG has you start out by killing spiders and rats? A bad one thats what.

Wow, EverQuest and even Star Wars Galaxies, they are all just a mud with a grpahical skin streached over it, you can get just as much gameplay, for FREE from a mud.

Yes -- they are actually known for having the shortest levelling curve of any MMOG, so you quickly become powerful. And they don't start you out killing spiders and rats...well, sometimes spiders, but some darn nasty really big spiders.

One of the best dungeons I've been in within a game is Gnomeregan, a low-level dungeon.

Now, to be honest the first day I played WoW I did kill a rat. It was in my laundry room.

Well I was killing spiders, so I dont know what your talking about.

It doesn't make you kill rats, but you can.
Well you dont HAVE to pay, im sure some peeps set up some free servers somewere, look around.
if you've never played an MMORPG it's a great new experience... otherwise it is a watered down good game. So it's OK, and that's a LOW ok.

you might not know what i'm talking about, but i *do* know what i'm talking about.

there are low level spiders, but there are also some huge level 30+ spiders, and there are probably higher level ones than them too!

the low level monsters include wolves, kobolds, humans, zombies, and a lot more. a bit more than "spiders and rats". rats are critters, not enemies. if you want to hate the game for having spiders, good, it'll make the servers less crowded for the rest of us :-)

My friends are all long-time MMOG players, and hardcore gamers, and they've given up all the other games to play WoW.

It can depend on what you are looking for, but WoW has a lot to offer, and is shaping up to have an interesting end-game.
This guy seems to have fun with it: http://pc.gamespy.com/articles/578/578734p1.html
Play it if you want to ruin your life! Nuf said.

Yeah, in BRS There are some huge spiders that spawn about 5 smaller ones when you kill them...they wipe out most groups who don't know what they are doing.

Yeah, most people who hate WoW hate MMORPGs in general, considering WoW has all they do and then some, and it doesn't seem like a grind compared to every other game.

I've gotten back to playing WoW some, and I'm immediately reminded of some of the qualities of this game that I haven't encountered in other MMOGs.

Specifically, there is always something to do...and most interestingly, if you just wander around and do stuff, you will encounter quests along the way and as you resolve those quests you'll stumble on other quests and places and things to do, and eventually you've found that you've levelled but you weren't even thinking about it. This is the only game where I rarely look at my experience bar -- experience just happens while you are doing other things.

The game is both solo and group friendly, and lots of larger raid and PvP-oriented content is being added in. They are developing large quests for your whole guild to do at once, etc.
