Powerpuff Girls Anime Announced (2005-04-02 17:56:0
Plans for a Powerpuff Girls anime were announced at the Tokyo Animation Fair. A joint venture between Toei Animation, Aniplex, and Cartoon Network, the new project will be tentatively titled "Demashitaa! Powerpuff Girls Z."

Its a little late for april fools day, I dont believe it, esepcially since that Z looks just like from the Dragonball Z logo, except its pink.

[Edit:] Considering the time of year, that whole thing may be an elaborate April Fool's joke... However, weighing in the obvious level of work that went into those promotional pictures, I'm giving this the benefit of the doubt... Not many people would go to that length just for a joke...
[/edit] Hmmm, I suppose it was only a matter of time... Just to clear up the apparent confusion about this that's running rampant through this thread: Yes, Power Puff Girls is an American cartoon... However, it is drawn in a sort of "pseudo-Anime" style that is becoming all the rage in American cartoons... This is apparently just taking that one step further, and actually making an Anime based on it... Toei Animation is the Japanese company that is responsible for many, many Anime titles, notably of which is our very own DBZ... From that quote, it looks like Cartoon Network has licensed the PPG title to them to create this PPG Anime... I for one, prefer Anime style animation over most American fare (regardless of what anyone says about it's quality, Anime is usually incredibly better than American cartoons in terms of detail, artwork, and framerate of animation... and no, I'm not talking about Disney movie animation; nothing compares to that... I'm talking about the average American half hour cartoon show), so I kind of like the idea of an Anime style PPG... However, I'm not too fond of the addition of what are apparently weapons, or that these girls look a bit older than the originals, but they still have a neat overall "style"... As for the title, don't just see the Z and think that this must be a hoax because it's ripping off the DBZ... "Z" is used in a few other Anime titles, "Mazinger Z" being another noteworthy example... I don't think it has any special significance... In fact, in the case of Dragonball Z, the Z was added by Toei (!) simply as a way to seperate it from it's predecessor... They might be using the same tactic for this one as well... And no, the Z in that shot doesn't look exactly like the Z in the DBZ logo... The little crossbar in the DBZ "Z" is pointed on both sides... That one looks like a triangle sitting on top of the Z... And at any rate, that's just a common style in writing the letter Z (many people add a line across the middle of the letter Z, just like many people draw a line across the middle of their 7's... not that I agree with either practice, but it is common) And lastly (in an unrelated bonus), as mentioned below, the Spice channel is an adult channel, like the Playboy channel (however, I believe the Spice channel is a bit more adult than that)... We've never had it in our cable service (it's an extra "premium" channel, like HBO and such), but I've heard it mentioned numerous times... Jay Leno frequently includes it in his monologue jokes...lol | |
