Ungh, if his email isn't public page him.

Well, I prefer to keep my email address private, but if you'll post the code on the forums, I'll be glad to help!
|
Thnx but the problem is that not every one has to see my coding you can also add me to your msn if you dont like to give your e-mail on the forum [email protected]
else i have paged you meby you can respon there sow i can send it? Thnx that you wanne help me i`m Greate full ;) |
I'll be glad to help you over the pager, but I don't want to give my email address away, and I don't have MSN.
If the problem is that you don't want others to see your code, well, I would really suggest posting it on the forum anyway. You can trust the forum-goers! =) |
Or, you could go into a private channel in Chatters and work out the code problem using /showcode windows....

The problem is that BYOND supports no form of private postal messages. If the forum had a private message system and BYOND pages could be sent to people's PM inboxes, communication would be a whole lot easier here!

I understood about 20% of that, you could try to improve your english/typing skills using some online tutorials and some outside help, it'd greatly help your respect anywhere on the internet and make it much easier for people to understand you and help you more efficiently.

Also, Chatters has a messaging system built in. You can send someone a private message, like an email, and even attach code snippets or html windows. You can forward messages, reply, save drafts, track your sent mail, and even send mail easily to one of your Groups. It's a pretty powerful system, which is sadly neglected. I'd like to see Chatters become more useful to BYONDers, which was the whole point of creating it in the first place. Right now, its got a ton of features people don't use, and a lot of potential that goes untapped because everyone assumes that The Lounge and its gang of miscreants are all that is, when they aren't even a speck in the whole scheme. It's sad, really... probably the biggest reason I don't work on it very much. I mean, why bother if no one is going to use it for anything more than idle chatting?

maybe it should be renamed to something more fitting of it's capabilities. i mean, 'Chatters' sounds like a plain ole chat program. :)
|
Chatters is a fine name, as that is the main function of the program. Calling it anything else won't make it more than what it is, which is a chat program. It's just a lot more than the average BYOND chat has going for it.

I'm sure your code is so advanced that the future of BYOND depends upon the secrecy!
People benefit from code on the forums. If you don't want people to see it, then fix it yourself. There's no reason to hide your code from other people, those that would actually steal it without learning HOW to do what you are doing don't visit the developer section in the first place, and wouldn't spend the time to run a search for a single chunk of code to do something specific. In short, don't worry about it. |

In theory it'd be easier, however for 'famous' guys like Tom, Mike H, Lummox JR, etc it'd be a lot harder. Everyone thinks "Oh, I know, I'll ask Lummox JR" when they've got a problem. So now Lummox JR has an inbox full of help requests and since he can't help everyone he'd probably end up not helping anyone. Bug reporting directly to Tom wont get you very far either, at least not as far as reporting it on the forum. The same thing goes for the other regular helpers. This is a perfect example, he knows Wizkidd can help explain stuff to him so he knows it's a good idea to ask him. It makes sense since Wizkidd does know quite a lot and most likily can/will help him, but Wizkidd probably wants to be able to choose when he helps people. I'm not up there with those guys, but the reason I don't give out my IM/e-mail details here is because most times I have I've ended up with that person asking me for help every five minutes. I don't mind helping them, but a lot of the time they're questions that could be answered either; by anyone on the forum, by looking at the reference or just by taking a better look at the code. I'd rather be doing what ever I was doing and help out when I have the chance (if someone else hasn't beat me to it). |

The person who needed to understood it had no problems, so I don't see why it's a concern. The talking style is abbreviated, but it's not thoughtless or unintelligible, I don't think this sort of post is acceptable just because you don't like abbreviations. I don't like most abbreviations either, but it's pointless AND fruitless to post this to everybody who uses them, they probably won't change, and there are too many anyways. ~Polatrite~ |

This is a bit off-topic, but I asked Quxatrox, and he's a Netherlander. English is a second language for him (Dutch, of course, is his first). Any issues regarding the comprehensibility of his writing is probably due to that, and not to him trying to abbreviate words, which I don't think that he is. |
