Okay, I can usually fix computers quite efficiently, but I have tried everything to remove this trojan. This seems like a problem I cannot fix on my own. I know that the directory is in the C drive, WINDOWS section, system32 sub-category, and hp5030.tmp or hp3050.tmp, I don't remember. The problem says (on the desktop background) the following:
Security warning
A fatal error has occured at 00:28:C0011E36 at VXD VMM(01) + 00010E36. Error was caused by Trojan-Spy.HTML.Smitfraud.c
*System cannot function in security mode, please check your security settings.
*Scan youer PC with any avaliable antivirus / spyware remover program to fix the problem.
I have scanned with avast! antivirus, and Microsoft Anti-Spyware, as well as Registry Mechanic. I've also scanned at boot-time with avast!. The others I have no knowledge of how to do so. I've done the same in Safe Mode as well.

So you cant manually delete it from safemode?

Yeah, I've tried that. The file is not even there in Safe Mode. I've also tried System Restore, but that hasn't worked either. The desktop has also move a bit to the side, and I can only see the text on the background partially. I'm guessing the newly aquired SpyBot Search and Destroy had something to do with that.

Have you tryed adjusting your moniters setting to see the rest of the text?

I don't care about the text, that's part of the problem stated in the first post. I just want to be able to adjust the backround and all, but since I've had this trojan, I havn't been able to do so. It also has installed this little yellow triangle that gives me popups when I click it to make it go away. This is driving me nuts.

Hey, I got it covered. I fixed the MAJOR problem at least. Now, just to get that icon out of my system tray and fix problems with IE and http://www.starsearch.com
Don't go there, your IE may mess up. |

Why dont you upgrade your browser to Mozilla's FireFox?
Go here and see why you should: http://www.stopie.com |

You also might want to try Opera, for some reasons why check out 30 days to becoming an Opera 8 lover. It's only on day 15, but hopefully it can convince you to switch.

FireFox can do basicly all of that with extensions. Its free, opensource and not bloated like opera :P

I was looking at that, and it looks nice and all, but what makes it worth getting over FireFox. The only thing I could see was voice commands, but that is gimicy. Everything else FireFox or Mozilla Suite could give you.

I like the feel of FireFox better, and its a smaller download if you just want a browser

Yes but that "bloat" is much better handeled by Opera than if you add it manually through extensions to firefox. Firefox tends to slow down the more extensions you add, and I for one use a majority of Opera's features and much perfer the speed at which I can browse. Also, Opera's fast-forward button is quite possibly one of the greatest features I've seen in a while, and I use it quite often :D

I already use Mozilla FireForx, but because it doesn't read some of IE's HTML and other web implementations, I might try Opera and see where that goes.
