As long as it's enjoyable to read, I wouldn't say it's poorly written. I would read something from a "newb" if I enjoyed reading it, and a lot of people enjoy reading it.
But I do agree with you, even if people are fanatical about it, if someone is that into it, they probably aren't a very functional member of society. Even if I felt like killing myself after hearing the spoiler because I loved it so much (Hell, it wasn't even the final book's spoiler, and he kill himself over it), I wouldn't because I should have a family and I should have friends that care about me, and I wouldn't do that to them.
Those are the kind of spoilers that piss me off, is the loudmouths and the people who trick others into seeing the spoiler.
It's probably a good idea for people to take Crispy's advice, and just not be a social butterfly in any way when something you are anticipating a lot comes out.

I can see why you're mad, since I understand how hard it can be not to see something out of the corner of your eye, and I think the <spoiler></spoiler> tags would definately help that.
Heh, you should have taken the "someone just tricked me and sent me to a page with a bloody ghost's face screaming and my speakers are turned all the way up" approach: close your eyes and ctrl-alt-del twice :P |

I'm a Harry Potter fan, but there's no way I would go that far. It is interesting, and it was the book that turned me into a reader, but it is NOT the best book ever. There are many others I have read that are better than that.

DM was the language that turned you into a programmer, but it's not exactly the most low level (adaptable, powerful...and so on) language ever. Harry Potter books are children's books. You're a child. :p |

I am NOT a child. Sure, I may be immature, childish, etc. But in just a few months I will be in High School and I'll have my learners permit.

In true Maddox style, someone who kills themselves over a freaking (poorly written) book for kids deserves to die. It is a very well-written book for kids, and an acceptably written book for anybody. |

If you're not 18 or older, you're still considered a child, unless you murder someone, but even then you'll be placed in kiddie jail until you turn 18, where you'll then be thrown into general population. You're not a man until The Man says you are. >.>

I don't know. I'd probably be a bit more vicious than that. I'd spoil the ending to his life's story: "I kill you!". >:D Ok, maybe not that vicious, but the punishment should fit the crime, even moral ones.

Just because the books were written for children doesn't mean you have to be a child to enjoy them.

I said it was intended for kids (generally, although of course you get adults going insane over it too), and it's written in a way that lets children easily get into reading. Like Jamesburrow said, he read it, and then got into reading better stuff. (That's why I compared it to DM, sigh) |
We didn't have to read them after all, they were marked....
I just like hearing the guesses, not the confirmed ending.
