So I was installing several programs from Macromedia 2004 MX (or whatever it's called) this morning...about 1-2 a.m. Then, after I installed some of them, it told me I needed to restart the computer. Well...since I was installing each one individually, I decided to hold off on the restart until I had installed them all.

So then I restarted. About a minute after I logged on to Microsoft Windows XP Home, this little box came up with a 3-second timer, then my computer rebooted. It said something about an IP error or something, although I couldn't read it all in 3 seconds.

Anyway, I let that thing reboot my computer about 6 times before I caught on that it wasn't going away. When I noticed the mention of the IP error, I tried disconnecting my internet adapter, then letting it reboot again. It still gave me the same problems.

So...with a little ingenuity I decided to hold F3 as the computer rebooted, then press F8 when it said to press F8 for advanced reboot settings or something. I restarted in Safe Mode.

While in Safe Mode, I decided to run SpySubtract. As soon as it opened, it said there was something wrong with my network configuration, and a reboot was required to fix it.

...So I rebooted in normal mode. Still the same problem. Back to safe mode. I tried running Norton's Security Suite(so I could run a virus scan), but it couldn't operate under Safe Mode. So I decided to take another approach. While in Safe Mode, I did the System Restore to the point after I had installed Macromedia ColdFusion. Now I'm unsure if I should re-install Macromedia Flash and Macromedia Freehand, for fear of the same problem occuring.

Any ideas on which program may have caused it?

Does anyone know what the error was, and/or what causes it?

Well, ColdFusion is the one that has to do with internet stuff.

Can't really know what the error is unless you tell us. A bit of a problem getting those psychic powers working. :)

I provided all the info I know about it. Also, prior to the first reboot, I received several alerts from my Norton software saying an attempted attack by a trojan was stopped. I don't think that the trojan/s should've caused it, considering Norton did say it was stopped.

[EDIT]
Well, I thought I'd solved it. But all it did was take longer before rebooting my computer. So...I restored to an earlier point, and I can only hope that it's solved.

Well, I've seen norton do nothing. It will say it does something, but it seems like it doesn't do a damn thing to help you out.

You probably have some corrupt file somewhere/some corrupt registry entry, I'm not thinking it's spyware or a virus or something (Unless you downloaded some type of hacked version, I wouldn't doubt it would have a virus then.), because Macromedia Studio isn't going to install that kind of stuff to your computer.

My computer did this kind of crap when I installed something that was for XP when I have 98, because it corrupted an important windows file, so maybe you have like, a version for some other OS or a different windows version when you should have gotten XP?

That could be the case. Before the first reboot it gave me like 5 alerts saying it stopped a trojan from attacking me, and then 4 seconds later my PC reboots.

I ran SpySubtract. It cleared out all "suspects" from my registry.

I sure hope it wasn't for another OS...but it's possible. The thing does say stuff about errors or corruption. I'll have to check that out.
