What you should tell me is how the heck he got it. Last I checked, it was only Beta 1 and not 100% finished.

I'm guessing his friend was a beta tester, or found some way to pirate it.

Which explains why it doesn't work with alot of programs.

and since it won't be out in the general public for some time, don't expect Dan or Tom to jump at getting BYOND working on it anytime soon, unless they get lots of free time.

hopefully DanTom will not need to jump through major hoops to support it when it does come out.

after taking a look at MS's website regarding Vista, I don't see what all the fuss is about really. It looks XP with a new skin. and the proposed functionaltiy is nothing new either - gui's for Linux have used virtual folders for some time now, and the Flip/Flip3D trick i've seen as a hack for MacOSX and Linux *AND* WinXP about a year or two ago. Thumbnails for documents, images, and movies have been around for KDE for a while, and I know all three major platforms have some sort of sidepanel.

granted, it looks like good fluff, and probably is a great step up for Windows-users in terms of useability and stability, but i'm not sure i'd pay $99 for it (or whatever the pricewill be).

Well, needless to say, its illegal the way he got it, so he shall remain unknown. I can tell you two things. First he googled windows vista, and he got it from a PVP server.

It's stupid to get an unofficial Beta/Alpha for anything that deals with Operating Systems. It is very unstable most likely, and it's not supported by ANYTHING except very old stuff (Starcraft... and other old games and such) and the stuff that was built ON it (Custom version of Notepad or something).

I had the Beta of XP, It was...AWFUL. Nothing worked, I couldn't do ANYTHING on it, because nothing supported it. It was very boring to have.
