For the past few months, many people on BYOND neglect the file format of MIDI. I don't exactly understand why not to use MIDI. It's so far the easiest format to create music from. I take looks around BYOND and I don't find many MIDI Sequencers, but a few musicians using tools such as Fruity loops or Reason to create MP3. I have nothing against MP3 whatsoever, I'm actually making some for Christmas presents for people, but the only place nowadays that I seek to for MIDI help or critique on my own compositions, is VGMusic Forums.
I've seen some works from people who've tried to make MIDIs, their first times, second times, etc., and then I look at myself. Am I really one of the few people that have decided to actually keep doing this. I even bring myself to think of this because I now face the lazyness that has sunk into me. I haven't made any new music in almost two months. I don't know why, perhaps it's uninterest that MIDI now has on me. Although, I still listen to MIDIs and MP3s at at least Eight hours daily.
I'd actually like to hear other people's opinions on this topic, maybe some of them will inspire me to get off my ass and do something. I'm curious.

First of all, MIDIs sound different on different computers.
Second of all, they sound too fake. When you use something like fruity loops, it sounds more realistic, at least in my opinion, than an MIDI. |
I, too, am a MIDI sequencer :)
I'm doing some work for some of a friend's games, and I'd love to talk to you about some of the intricacies of MIDI. Maybe we could learn from each other! jme.bell[at]hotmail[dot]com Add me to MSN or send me an e-mail, if you'd like. |
Yay original MIDIs. More yay for formats like mod, which are like MIDI, but better, but still yay for MIDIs. :P
Anyways, BYOND doesn't do mp3s. |

BYOND does OGG which is very similiar to MP3(It seems to be slightly bigger.)

Anyways, BYOND doesn't do mp3s. Yeah, it does. =P Maybe not directly through the sound() proc, but it can be done. Heck, the Naruto Universe Chat I made let's us upload MP3s into a playlist that plays through for us while we chat on the subject of NU's development. =P Hiead |

When you use something like fruity loops I'd just like to point out to both of you that MIDIs can be made in FL Studio. =D Hiead |

Airjoe wrote: Fruity Loops has a horrible way of MIDI sequencing. I reccomend that you don't import MIDIs for it deletes pitch bends, SysEx events and other events. Just for everyone's knowledge, MIDIs can be transpired to MP3 using SoundFonts. Soundfonts, which are MUCH easier to use when you're just trying to make A MIDI sound realistic can come in regular instrument packs or entire GM banks. I use SynthFont for that. Some times if I get a text message on my phone I'll just sit back and listen to the full song. I would personally like to make some midi's, but cant find any decent free software.
