Please help me.. my comp is dyin, I tried to use spybot - search and destroy AND ad-aware, and none of them seem to work...
Also, I have like 3-5 svchost.exe processes, is this normal?
I run windows XP, with no Service Packs as of yet.
If there's any way I can get rid of me, please post, my old computer just can't take the battering any longer...

Well, if you can get the service packs please get them.. If you pirated Windows... make sure you update definition files and get an actual anti-virus.

Once you HAVE gotten rid of it, get FireFox or modify Internet Explorer to keep the spyware gone for good.
A lot of websites automatically download spyware to your system using Active X controls. |

I'm not sure, but these are some of my problems:
I have a couple of weird files in C:/ one is named mmxxxxmas2.exe, another emoticonz.exe, and the other one is called goaway.exe. I also keep getting popups from websites like "adultfriendfinder" and "brightdarkness" which is really annoying. I also have "Winfixer 2006" popups, and I know this is spyware... EDIT: If you know how to use HijackThis, I can give you a log if you need one. |

Ick. Probably the easiest thing to do is just format your computer and start from scratch. (Making sure you've backed up all the documents you want to keep; but be careful when backing up and restoring files, or the spyware may be able to jump ship onto your new system.)
This thread may or may not help: http://discussions.virtualdr.com/showthread.php?t=198916 Once you get clean (either by removing it or formatting the system) INSTALL A SERVICE PACK, and turn on automatic Windows Update. Using Firefox instead of IE will also help a lot. Get antivirus and antispyware programs (I suggest AVG for antivirus, it's free) and use them regularly. You are very vulnerable to spyware and viruses without these things. |
