There are a few well-made "DB_ *insert whatever here*"
but point is, a lot of people have somewhat ruined its name and fun. Like said earlier: "It can't quite get to the 'intensity' of the Animated Series." I completely agree with that. Also, there are some quite innovative ideas for "DB_" Games.

Its sad that, seemingly, a lot of developers resort to Rips. Thats their choice, but also why the DBZ Channel was created, if people properly used it, then wouldn't be as much ruckus.

I'm all up for inviting them into open arms, but most of the DBZ players I've encountered are "noobs"; act immmature, have crap for spelling, and have the kind-of "No respect for anyone" kind of attitude.. Basically, its those kind of people that have kinda ruined it for a lot of others.

I'm up with Xoox, here. I'll try my best to help/accept them.
Yea, my 2 cents.

Weakness in the source... Hm. I think there were serious mistakes and flaws in DBZ's quality, although i like the concept DBZ has. But I dont think that relates to the horrible games put out on BYOND or on consoles. I think the sub-par console games are like that because the developers KNOW that the can put any steaming turd with the DBZ name on it and the massive fan base will buy it thinking, "Maybe they actually did it right this time."

Oh i like this one! Training shouldnt even be an issue in any good DB/Z game, in fact you shouldnt even notice your training your character. I guess what i mean is... You should be enthralled in quests/roleplay events/tournaments/challenge fights and events of other kinds which enhance your character's abilities, and that are actually fun and make you want to partake in them...

The problem is, most of the programmers who make DB Z/GT games don't take the time or effort to do this kind of thing.

Fair enough. It may just be shipping low quality to feed mass demand. But it seems to me that DBx isn't a particularly high quality product to begin with and most of the fans seem to be young males who latch onto the power fantasy as oppossed to any depth of story.

Again, I am not saying nothing good can come from it; I think that a talented writer/programmer/etc. could probably produce something superior even to the original! I just think that this particular area has a very high chaff ratio, if you will.

I do think the original post's point is laudable, however I do not know if it is realistic to expect people to wade through a haystack of sludge to find a needle of potential. Hopefully, the needle will be sharp enough on its own to push through!
I fully agree with you.

Myself, I have ripped Zeta in the past. But my main reason wasn't a spamming purpose. No, I ripped it because I couldn't program and I was impatient. I enjoyed browsing through that code, editing it but most off all: Trying to create a fun DBZ-game. Sadly enough, I didn't knew that the source code of Zeta wasn't quite ...good/'robust'.

Putting that aside, my ripping days weren't meant bad, not at all. Here on the Developer Forums I got spammed and annoyed with words like "Create your own game. How? www.byond.com/docs/guide". I replied as calm as possible to such posts, but inside me several explosions were occuring. My point is that not all Zeta rips are bad, or meant as something bad.

DBZ and Zeta are two different things to me. DBZ is just ...DBZ. Zeta is that horrible-programmed open-source game. Many people don't seem to see the difference, wich is the reason why they started "hating" DBZ.

Well nobody means to make something bad. It's just the inevitable result of all rips.

No, I think a lot of people legitimately hate DBZ and are just annoyed by the huge number of games devoted to it. I also think a lot of other people hate the rips, but like or love DBZ itself. Both camps would be satisfied by the rips going away, but that's not going to happen as such.

It wasn't "making something bad" I meant, but rather making a Zeta rip with the purpose of I.E. spamming. Most people are creating them for such purposes. But the other group is making them because they want to have their own game wich they can run.

You have a point there, but about the "I also think a lot of other people hate the rips, but like or love DBZ itself". I was talking about the group who started hating DBZ because of the Zeta-rips.

Well, helping the developers would definately encourage them to create totally original engines. I say yea, help them however you can.

It's odd; but anything with DB seems to turn out like junk. The DB fighting games are junk, DB liscenced products are uniformly low quality, etc.

Yes, the DBZ console games were pretty awful. Cash cows, I expect.

I'm half inclined to think that someone should make a similar document to the DM Guide- what to do, and what not to do, in a DBZ game. Of course it should be proposing and giving ideas to developers, not just telling them to add a particular feature.
I agree, when I first came here to play dbz games (I was like 13 or 14 at the time) I was segregated and attacked due to my young stupidity (hehe). It almost turned me off from staying here because it gave me a bad taste in my mouth, but yet I stayed anyway and I'm definately not still making DBZ games :P
I've been working on a Mud styled Online game for the Dragonball Series that relys more on combat and story instead of standing in a spot and hitting a speed bag.

Using mini games and stuff in the game, to gain levels and advance your charater is much nicer then the same old crap.

I was going to talk to you Xooxer, I was hoping you could do like, Isometric Style, Dragonball,Z,GT Sprites and Turfs.

We could always argue out a payment and play later on if you like. You can catch me at [email protected]
