name ask's it all
You could've asked in your PREVIOUS topic. It's a scripting language for Bulletin Boards.

Again, wrong.

BBcode is a scripting language for PHPBB boards.

PHPBB stands for PHP Bulletin Board. As for PHP, don't even start to ask if you don't know HTML yet. Believe me, it just won't click. But, if you must know, PHP is kind of like a program running inside of a webpage, and extends the capabilities of a website.

There are many programs like this, such as CGI, JSP/ASP and a few others, but PHP is the most notable one used for some of the best looking sites on the net. Though each has their own functions, differences, and specifications. It is more a call of preference on the usage of them, as they have all developed enough to be pretty incredible on their own, or via the extended manipulation of XML, HTML, Javascript, etc.

PHPBB is a forum system that has been programmed in PHP. They are easy to set up, customize, and very user-friendly.

Example of it being used- http://68.56.69.178/forum/

It's offline right now, but I'm guessing it'll come right back up.

PHPBB sucks in my opinion SMF is the best
In response to A.T.H.K
I second you on that one.
In response to A.T.H.K
Care to explain why SMF is better?
In response to Artemio
It's coded better for a start.
In response to Smoko
Wow, what an argument. "It's coded better."

Please, show me an example of PHPBB code and an example of SMF code and point out how SMF is better.
In response to Artemio
SMF's admin is easyer and the skins look so much better fair enought php-nuke choose PHPBB but i think they should of went with SMF
In response to A.T.H.K
The skins look much better? I doubt you've seen all if over 10 PHPBB skins from a noteworthy site. And the administration for PHPBB is just as easy as SMF though lacking in a couple features which can be remedied with a hack.
In response to Artemio
The correct term you be Script not "Hack" when in truth they don't hack anyone
In response to A.T.H.K
He's not talking about the verb 'hacking'.. -_-
He's talking about a little 'tool' (hack) to improve/change it.
In response to Mysame
Which it should really be called a script
In response to A.T.H.K
Look up the definition of hack sometime, it might do you good.
In response to Artemio
Well, both would suffice, given that we know what you mean by 'hack.' Anyway, I think PHPBB is pretty good. It can be made better than SMF (if it isn't already, I wouldn't know, I don't even know what SMF is), provided that you are a good PHP scripter. Hell, you can change the whole look of PHPBB with a few editions of the files.

In fact, I beleive the PHPBB site hold a lot of templates. I've seen a lot of excellent ones on there.

In my eye's SMF's code looks alot nicer. They also design it with security first, not crappy features. Take a look at the ammount of exploits made for it compared to the rest.

skins are customizable in *any* well done system, and phpBB ain't that hard to tweak if you know what to do.

and you can use nearly any forum system with phpNuke- though why you would consider phpNuke in the first place is a little suspect. it tends to get smashed from exploits more othen than phpBB does.

i use the smartor portal front-end for digitalBYOND, but i prefer Etomite or MODx as a portal system (digitalBYOND is being migrated over to MODx).

and it appears phpBB updates faster than SMF, in terms of addressing security updates.
