Personal Linux Distro

I was thinking of making my own personal Linux distro, does anyone know which current distro is most effecient at doing this?

I heard Slax would allow you to repackage it as a new livecd, but I read about that like a year ago.

knoppix is also pretty savvy at letting you 'roll-your-own' - there are a lot of resources on the net to help you.
