Just curious, with the release of IE7 imminent will Dreamseeker have tabbed browsing in BYOND 4?

PS. I think DS uses IE but if I'm wrong let me know.

DS uses midgets. They travel underground, retrieve whatever page you might want, and shove it on the screen.
It's hard work, but someone's gotta do it.
DS does use IE. I cannot speak for the BYOND staff on whether they are going to update DS to use IE7, but I do know that quite a few BYONDers have been pushing for a switch from IE itself to something like Mozilla, or another browser.

Lies!

They can't. IE comes pre-installed on every Windows machine, FireFox has to be seperately downloaded.

Not every machine is under the control of Windows FUD/Fubar OSes. Linux Distros use Mozilla or Opera as standard.

Where do I download the non-text-based version of BYOND for Linux?

heh heh, I get your point but I think digitalmouse is working on a WINE/CrossOver project for BYOND.

Well, they are not putting FireFox into it. They are thinking about putting the Gecko engine in it. Which just happens to be the same engine as FireFox.

This would come with the installer, requiring no extra installation by the end-user. I think this is a great idea, but not an easy conversion. I would think that there has to be a project to make it super easy for developers to embed the gecko engine into their programs though.

Sure they can. All they have to do is... package it with the BYOND download.

(And as Scoobert says, we're not talking about Firefox per se, just its rendering engine, Gecko.)

That'd be a violation, because there are still people who vow their lives to Internet Explorer and hate FireFox!

...I like it. ;)

If you want to put it that way, then the current version of BYOND is violating my rights by forcing me to use Internet Explorer!

Seriously though, I bet most people wouldn't really notice if BYOND start using Gecko (apart from the slightly larger download); except for the developers, who would be grateful that they don't have to use [expletives deleted] IE. =)

"We luv FF!"

Angry mobs mainly say "rabble rabble rabble etc...". You would of course know this, if you watched South Park.

<3 South Park.

Once again, we are talking about Gecko, not FireFox, there is a difference. It would be nice if they could use my FireFox profile for all the extension, but that would not be the case. We are talking about Gecko, which is purely the rendering engine, and as such, does not have any of the extra bloat or features that FireFox has(Which doesn't have a ton of bloat as it is, but still some).

One of the biggest problems I see is Flash. Flash is not magicly installed systemwide, but rather for each browser. This would require BYOND to offer a seperate Flash extension for DS's gecko, but they could not package it in with the BYOND suite, due to legal issues with Macromedia/Adobe.

All together, it would be a netgain for BYOND, I would think.

Maybe he's Garthor? On Valium?

I think he just has a unique sense of humour. The Gecko Engine, huh? Not a bad choice.
