What are your suggestions for video cards? I will have about $150 available over the summer and I need a PCI-E 16x card. I plan on ordering from newegg. Post links if you can.

[Edit]
By the way, I can't really do with anything that heats up really quickly.

That seems to be a pretty decent card for 150. (Nvidia 6 series is better than Ati's counter part for gaming, which is the range you asked for. So I would recommend a Nvidia for gaming PC)

That's pretty awesome. Will that fan keep it cool? And whyat is Windows 2003?

I was also thinking about this one.

It says that they use that on the highest settings for the two games I really want to play, CS: Source and Day of Defeat: Source. I bought both of them already with the though that they might play on my videocard, but they don't.

I have a question. What's Sli mode?

My friend has a 6600GT, he gets about 40-60fps in CS: Source. Though, when it ran on my computer with 1g of ram, it got into 100 on average.

It's a pretty smooth card.

My first question is, What the hell is a 600GT? =p

Secondly, I do prefer ATI cards over Nvidia, but Nvidia's medium/low range cards offer more bang for the buck.

Windows 2003, I belive is a server OS or something of the sort. Also the fan will probably keep it cool enough. And that card should run CS:S and DOD:S fine. I have a 6600 and it averages about 30-70FPS in CS:S with medium-high settings. 1280x1024.

I think I'll get that 6800 you showed me. Thanks. =D

Yeah that 6800 or 6600GT should perform fine. Only thing is you might want to get an ATI, because value are [insert insult here] and made it so ATI cards do infact work better with there software. So you might want to consider getting something like an http://www.newegg.com/Product/ Product.asp?Item=N82E16814131420 (Sorry I just remembered this, if you play any other games that arn't made by value, most support Nivdia and it's best to get the 6800 or 6600GT)
Of course he does.

Somebody told me that the fan doesn't work really well. Any clarity on this?

6800GT ~= X800XT

Just a heads up.

6800GT has shader model 3 support, which is going to definately be used in some of the newer games coming out this year. Hell, even some games that came out last year use Shader Model 3... very little, but some of them do.

X800XT runs at higher clock speeds, which means you're going to get a smoother experience on it... It also means that the X800XT might run a little hotter as well, so pay attention to your cooling.
