That's messed up... blacks can be as racial as they want to, like how they have black only channels and stuff... but if a person made a channel called WET (white entertainment television) he would get arrested, what's up with that?

So yeah. The blame is misplaced. Put restrictions on the economy and plan it out, or y'know, stick with the current plan and let the rich fat-cats make a quick buck at the expense of everyone else. Probably why Bush 'n' that are so laid back when it comes to actual solutions to the whole thing (and are far more interested in blowing up a country like Iraq); they're making money out of your problems. | |

Calling someone an idiot or moron in the street is going to get you beaten up, too- you can call your friend an idiot and not expect to get beaten up, but some random stranger? Of course they're going to be offended! It's for historic reasons that someone would assume that if a white person called a black person a nigger they would be using it with the intent to insult. It's something you assume because of past-experience, social-climate and such. If someone knew the situation- knew that, say, the white and black person were best friends then it would be more obvious that the white person was not using it as a means to insult. It's less about racism, more about context and the situation. The same could be said for a blonde person calling another blonde person a "dumb blonde", or something along those lines. | |
Of course you can learn English without going to school in the US, but if you come from a poor country with an underprivileged background it's going to be a lot harder. Sure, you can go and compare bibles or whatever, but it's a rare person who is able to do that. I don't think I'd be able to learn Spanish by studying a Spanish bible. Someone exactly as smart as me who already knew Spanish would be at a clear advantage.
I'm in much the same boat as you with university, except that I managed to get a scholarship (my entry score was 98.6 out of 100, and that's not on a linear scale; the highest person in my school got 99, and we had a lot of smart cookies). I'm from a similar socioeconomic background from the sound of things. I might have gone to university anyway if I hadn't got the scholarship, since we have a low-interest loans system that the government subsidises (which all Australian citizens can get, it isn't a means-tested thing). Makes it a lot easier (not to mention cheaper) to pay off the debt afterwards. | |
No he wouldn't. People are free to express their beleifs. Unless you're a nazi. If you're a nazi, you're not allowed. It's illegal by international law.

I beg to differ. My brother is into all that rap stuff. He's about 13 years old. Last year, he said "What's up my "nigger"" to one of his friends and he ended up getting jumped after school. I don't beleive it has anything to do with context. It is because we're white.
And in America, we have the freedom to say what we want. Unless we are promoting the nazi party. <_< | |
They aren't allowed to pay illegal immigrants anything. They cannot hire them! They do anyway. I've said before, the government doesn't care about their stay here like they used to. Modern values have changed though.

Most channels I see are mostly white people. BET has white people on it, and white people can watch it, so it's not really a "black channel". And as someone else has said CMT is basically the white BET.

what the heck do 'modern values' have anything to do with this? there is nothing modern about getting what-ever work you can. hiring people on the sly, cash-under-the-table/over-the-barrel , or for cheaper/minimal wages *is* the American way for nearly the last 600 years - heck this is done around the world in some form or fashion. it's good business sense since it can a) create jobs, and b) keep production costs down so that you can buy your cheap frozen foods and leather handbags. people just need to get off their butts and do an honest days work, regardless of the pay (as long as they can get the basics of course... not fund your WWF cable-tv connection and your K-Mart/Tesco Saturday shopper-specials for the brain-dead masses) and learn to appreciate it without demanding for more - the 'border jumpers' are sure doing a better job than you lot whining about it. | |

Modern values are the reason they aren't being kicked out. Not because it's the right thing to do, but because they don't care.

Did you not read anything in there but that one statement? My little brother got jumped, y'know, by a group of black boys, because he said to his friend "What's up my nigga?". How does that not prove the fact that it is because were white that we cannot say it.

What do you think really gives you the right to say it? You light-skinned people had plenty of time to say it before the slaves were freed all the way until about 1990. So now why you let us call each other nigga, and you guys lay off?
