Hello all; I currently run a quickly-expanding forum, and I am currently using Godaddy because of it's price. I payed $38 for a year's worth of hosting (from user donations). It offers me 5 GB of disk space, as well as MYSQL databases and 250 GB of monthly transfer. Before I was on a private plan that offered only 10 GB of transfer. However, it's slow as sin; "Server Load" spikes to 70 or more, and stays down to 20 on a good day (I've seen it at 3 only once).
That being said, Godaddy seems to be terribly slow. Now with income (Job at Best Buy, hah!) I thought it may be time to kick it up a bit, but I would rather pay annually, and I can't afford anything too expensive (Dreamhost is super quick and great, but it's $119 a year!)
If anyone has any ideas, please let me know :)
Thanks,
[EDIT]
As of now, I'm looking into 1&1, but my friend who runs a forum on 1&1 has hours of downtime, and lots of network timeouts and Error 500 pages.

Hmm, I never thought of using a UK host. I'm in the states, so I'm not sure if that would work.
Do you know if they accept US accounts? ~Kujila |

They should do, as I have used American servers before, I'll just go check for you now mate :)
[Edit] I'm not positive on this but I'm certain you can register there for hosting websites and such. To further your curiosity, send them an e-mail on the contact area as they have a form that you can use to ask them a question, just ask is it possible for an American citizen to pay for a UK-based server run by them for hosting your website. --Lee |
Why not give them a try? They are very good, and concerning customer services, they handle better than any other customer services I have ever dealt with.
