Hi, I have a Linksys BEFW11SW4 V4 wireless router and I was wanting to 1. Update the firmware on it and 2. Attempt to try port forwarding so I could host byond games

I try going to the address given in the manual (192.168.1.1) tells me to log in, check the manual says to leave the name blank and put admin for the password try it and it says it's incorrect.

Here's what i've tried so far

Login names : blank, admin, Admin, administrator, Administrator, and other random things that it would be if someone else would have changed it

Passwords : same as login names

I've never connected to the router before so I haven't changed any settings on it and as far as I know no one else has either.

Any suggestions?

Did you buy it and do the setup on it yourself? And who's your service provider?

For the most part yes I set it up. And my ISP is Cox, or was they were recently bought out by some company.

But what does that have to do with anything? I'm trying to connect to the router through the network not over the internet.

try typing in cox with a password 1234

I have comcast, and I have to type in Comcast password 1234 to access my linksys router.

Ok I tried that and to no avail. Any idea what might be my problem?

If you know how to set it up by yourself, there should be a Reset button somewhere on it. (Which -should- put the username and password to their default)

Tried the reset button but still not working.

Did you try password and 1234 with Admin?

Still nothing.

When you reset did you wait for the LED lights to go off(You have to keep holding it for another 30 seconds after that). So you have to hold reset for a minute. Than it will restore to factory settings. Than blank user name and password admin should work.
