A story about the unluckiest man alive

I know i stated that i would begin making dungeons and be showing that off. Well ive decided to still stick on my finish soloable stuff first ive changed the order to which i will complete it.

So what i did was completley scrap my world (kept some ideas similair) and completley did an overhaul of the design. I also made the world 50% bigger. Next I think im going to move onto AI and shop keepers. Get that all set up and than finish the solo content by completing the dungeon systems.

So without further ado here is a few teaser images.

This replaced the gravyard.

this area replaced my ugly mountain.

This area is right above a giant castle area, where these creatures have broken through the walls of it.

Tell me what you think?
I think the Legacy Of Goku sprites need to be trashed. The art style itself is a bit wonky. The palette needs to be cut down, I see probably about 6-8 different greens. I think the water and edges themselves could use work to smooth and fluid edges instead of the basic _ and / angles.

The layout itself is hideous. Nothing has reason or rhyme to it. It's almost as if you pressed the arrow keys while randomly clicking on the map editor to place the bushes, flowers, trees.

Here's examples you could benefit from:

Notice there's floral life placed strategically so there's not really a blank space. Even if you're using wide open planes, there shouldn't be filled full of only grass. Try to differentiate your grass by adding little patches of taller grass or flowers or weeds.

Notice the beautiful water and position of the edges with various aquatic herbal life.

yea man im no artist, i will never make it look anything like that. It looks better than before which is all that matters to me. Im a programmer first, so i want to make the art tolerable and than focus on making it fun. Not even on my death bed will i ever have the skill to do that even if i focused on art for my entire life.

They also are not legacy of goku sprites. I draw everything myself

it looks nothing similair. If i could draw as well as the legacy of goku team i'd be impressed with myself. Just from the grass alone you can see the quality of theres is vastly better. Also their edges. I will never come close. Also the second image is ridonculous and is the best sprite art ive seen. No way in hell will my game look like that, hell no game on byond currently is even that close. No it goes further i havent played a sprite based game thats even looked that good.

I am 1 man.

the first image however would be more realistic if i got an art partner. But again if you play beyond games you should even know that barley any games have that quality. If they do they are ussually ripped from professionals, not that there is anything wrong with that. But As someone who prides himself in doing everything myself that will never happen.

Also its clear that i dont place things randomly. As my world tells a story through its placement if you saw the bigger picture. Or that grave yard would not be formed, or neither the mountains. Yes my placement could get better, which naturally will get better as i increase the number of objects i make. But realisticaly this simple style is all i can hope to acheive
and just to show you the difference between an artist and me. Here is an image below not my first byond project but probably 3rd. It took me years to get even this good. I remember thinking this was the best character model id done, i thought my interface was good too though hahaha. And the previous games before that where even worst artistically. Just so i can show you that im proud how far ive come. The one good thing from this is the rocks but those where ripped.

i love the mountain area tho i think the graveyard area would be more nice if you made the darker tiles a bit more random in there placement and not just have them in perfect spaced out blocks

i do agree though you should find things to fill your empty space with

Yea I'll start getting more objects as they are made.

Also thank you. I'll think of the graveyard thing though for now I'm going to work on AI.
