Not Feasible

It's time to remove the 256x256 Icon cap, where we cant edit Icons larger then 256x256.

There are other programs out there for working with larger sized stuff.

I think first the icon editor needs to not chug so much for icons larger than 32x32.

The icon editor we have now was never really meant to work on anything above 32x32 and when it was expanded to sizes above that we realized it was really, really slow about it, and that's when the decision to limit the size was made (and even those limits are pushing the thing).
While it's possible that the future could see an improvement that would make this possible, it's doubtful it would be anytime soon, especially as there are other tools available to handle most of what you need. The amount of work required to replace the icon editor entirely to facilitate this request simply isn't feasible for the foreseeable future. |
