Hey this is my first post/thread here on the byond forums and I thought I'd make a thread about Wurm Online, so here I go:

Wurm Online will be a community-centric fantasy MMORPG fully developed in Java. Gameplay will be free at first, but when you wish to develop your character beyond basic skills, you're going to have to pay a monthly fee.

The world will have a real economy with a fixed pool of money and resources, and almost all items in the world will be created by other players. When the game is first launched, it will pretty much just only be a huge forest, and it will be up to the players to build the towns and create the items needed for both everyday use and more exotic practices.
Wurm Online will neither have levels nor hitpoints. Instead, you have a set of skills that define your character, and a list of any unhealed wounds the character has.

Gameplay is expected to be very down to earth and community-based for most players, with each town serving as a small community. Towns will also remain safe as long as the computer controlled guards are alive. You won't be able to attack other players or perform any other illegal activity inside the town without first killing all the guards. Outside the towns, however, you can do anything you want, but performing illegal activities will lower your status in the nearby villages.[/quote]

The world of wurm is incredibly expansive taking as much as a few hours to cross the map, along with terraforming so you can morpg the ground to create mountains if you found it nessicary.

When you start out in the game you spawn at a town called Newtown with a few tools to help you get started, than you set off trying to survive in the expansive environment, you have to drink water and eat on a regular basis and you have a stamina meter determining how fast you are running.

After you set out you realize food isn't as easy to come by as you may have thought, you need to find clay and make clay bowls to cook your food, and you need spices with fish or meat to create something edible to survive.

After you get going you can start making houses and walls, nothing in wurm is instant so creating a giant town could take you a few weeks or as little as a few days depending how much time you wish to put into it.

Wurm trys to veer away from the typical quests and NPCs making the game almost entirely player build and ran, so don't plan on trying to find a quest to make a few iron coins.

The world of Wurm has just gone gold meaning you do have to pay at a certain point, but they do allow plenty of access to basic accounts, the team behind Wurm is http://mojang.com/ who have been working on this game for around 5 or 6 years now, the team is made of only four people but they still manage to create one of the most submersive environments to be seen in a videogame.

Go to http://www.wurmonline.com click register, create an account, once you've registered hit launch and enjoy.

Since Wurm is such a massive game it has a fairly big hardware requirement to play with high settigns, and if you have any problems they have a bugs and problems section in the forums.

You know what, people in Byond forums, you guys are not smart. If you were to actually look at this thread and check out wurm online, you'd be like, "Wow, this game looks tight." I tried it and it's a really fun game once you get into it.

Well, sorry if the BYOND system isnt enough for you.Why not just leave if you dobnt like it?its the simplest solution.

Wow, someone replied... I said those things mainly to get someone to look at this. Did you check out the first post? The screenies look nice.

EDIT:

I thought i took out the stupid in the topic...I didnt mean that by the way.

EDIT:

There I fixed it... The byond system is a nice system for people who want to learn the basics on how to go making a game. I just don't like the tile movement system. In my opinion its too choppy.

I tried to register..OK
But when i launched; it began updating then failed. So all it says now is update failed. are the servers down or something??
In response to Drakiel
If the servers were down, it would say it in the top right corner of the website. Anyways, the servers are rarely ever down.

If the servers weren't down and something is actually not working, post about it in the Bugs and Problems section of the forums. I'll go and see if I can find a post on that... The forums were recently cleared so I might not be able to find a post about that. If I can't, I'm not sure what to tell you... Try hitting launch again, sometimes it takes a second time if you are playing for the first time.

Ok, I have a fix to your problem.

No need for that, Flimmy. Us guys aren't just not smart, we're stupid. Get it right! =p

I played it but didn't really get into it. Moved far too slow since it's all java'd up- something us BYONDers would be used to you might thing, but we all get our fix of laggy, slow gaming over here- we don't need anything else. =P

Still, the game has potential. And I mean that literally- it's slow going at first and really needs dedication from lots of people to become great.

*edit*

That said, everyone check it out. =P You might just get hooked.

Yah, you do need some dedication to it in a way. Not to deter anyone from trying it cause it's pretty fun either way.

Depending on how fast of computer you have, I suggest first trying it in low settings. If it runs great then try better settings. I play it with 256ram and a video card that came with my computer and I can play it in medium-low settings.

Ewww. Java.

But seriously, I tried it, and it was incredibly slow. I mean, I don't exactly have the best computer in the world but it should still be able to go faster than what it was going. It literally took over 5 seconds to move one tile.

Whats the graphics system going to be like in BYOND 4.0?
In response to Dead_Demon
Dalze, what settings did you have it set to? If you haven't, uncheck most everything in the last tab cause most of it is memory hog stuff.

Also, the starting area is a pain in the butt to move around in, you just gotta get away somewhere where there aren't a bunch of people. But yah...I guess I see what you mean. For me it is pretty laggy even with nadda graphics. In the old client I had a place where it was away from the constant flow of people and it was pretty much lag free. Not so much on the new client they set up.
