I searched Warhammer 40,000 and have seen a few people interested in it. I've been thinking of making a Warhammer 40,000 online game for BYOND(me as a sprite artist and designer). But I wanted to make a fifth edition basically with some new rules, changes to rules and models, and maybe some new models.
So the purpose of this thread is:
To meet fellow Warhammer 40,000 fans who use BYOND. So please post your email or aim screen name if you'd like so we can keep in touch.
Get some ideas for new rules or models and changes to rules or models.
Currently last and least, recruit skilled BYOND users in order to make a kick butt Warhammer 40,000 online.
Tazor is also making a warhammer like game, though I never played warhammer before, it sounds cool.

I think you should maybe do what Tazor did, make it so players can create their own ingame server. If you need an example of what I mean look at Unknown Persons, Ultimatum. Also if you need help with that I may will be able to help you with it, but probally on next friday.

Try Dawn of War.

40K is a neat little game, but I don't know how well it would translate to BYOND. Good luck, though.

Yea, the core of the game is complete, i just havent had alot of time to polish it.

BYOND is fit perfectly for a 40k game since it is turn based. You could just implement a lot of units and allow a player to make their own game with friends with setup options that let a game host control a credit system that limits the amount of units a player can use in a match based on the stats of each unit, such as making stronger units cost more, this could go along with the ability to pick maps and campaign settings.

I don't know if I would say fits "perfectly". For one thing, the whole inches to tiles conversion would be interesting. Does 1 inch = 1 32x32 tile? If so, how do you move 1/2 inch? Also, how do you prevent premeasuring? And what about the round bases which have to contact other round bases in order to conduct assaults?

Sure it can be done with some fudging, but at that point why not do your own sci-fi skirmish instead of "borrowing" 40k?

You could make one inch two tiles if you wanted to, or you could override the rule of having half inch movements. However, I think if you are a fan of the 40k tabletop games then that is reason enough to make a game based off of the 40k games instead of making your own. I mean, it isn't called Build Your Own Net Dream for nothing.

Haven't been around BYOND much but I haven't left for good.

One tile is one inch. That does violate overlapping bases because one inch is 25.4mm and the smallest base is 28mm.

These features are what I hope to have in the game:
Players will be able to set up games, change settings, the map, points limit, teamplay, etc.

There will be a few preset maps and a random map generator.

All the Warhammer 40,000 missions will be included.

The rules will go by the book except for a little bit of rounding to translate to BYOND, for instance the literal rounding of 2.6mm.

A campaign setting for tournaments or storyline playing. It can be controlled by the Master("host of the in-game game") or preset.

Buildings will be fully playable in, and you can go to different floors of a building with a click. Or you can choose to use the generic building rules.

A map editor for creating simple maps with land and terrain, or a complex map with scripted events. This can be implemented into a campaign and whatever happens indivudally in the map can be used to affect the whole campaign.

This is a heavy stack of features none of which I'll be doing the programming for because my skills are not in that field at all. Like I said I'll be doing graphics. Hopefully there's some willing programmers. You can work casually but please with some vigor involved.

Please email me at [email protected] if you're interested.
The requirements are that you can program good enough past the basics and you play/enjoy Warhammer 40,000. I only enjoy it now since there's no one who can play with me here but I used to play. Hopefully you also have at least one game that you helped in the develoment of.
If you are chosen, you get the rulebook and codexes. I'm only getting 1 or 2 people, mostly because I don't want a large team getting stuff mixed up and also because I don't want to be handing out codexes to a ton of people.

The Help will include a summary of rules and the Space Marine codex but then people are required to buy the other stuff. It's like how Warcraft III's Starcraft mod will require the game and expansion to play to keep Blizzard off the mod developer's backs.

Sorry this became a recruitment post. If some developers don't look here, I could always post in the recruitment forum.
