Srry If i tricked you, i need to know quick..

768k down, 128k up

256 k down, 256k up

Both are $40 a month

Which 1 is better?? Thanks for the help...

Im gunna be playing Xbox live alot, Downloading Demos and Trailers, and playing games, Maybe hosting...

So which 1 would be better..
It really depends on what you plan on doing with it. I, personally, would vote for the 768kbps one. A slower up would not hurt gaming a lot, as long as you where not the host. What is really important for games is not so much the up or down speed but the latency. One reason I like Road Runner is because it has a low latency. Latency is the leading factor in your "ping" in most games.
Which ever one gives you the larger download limit. Its kinda useless having 768k down when you only have like 3GB per month.
Simplified:

For downloading, playing games, XBox Live: The 768k one is better (especially for downloading).

For hosting: The 256k one is better (you need decent upload capacity for hosting).

So yeah, go for the 768k.

That depends on how much you download. =)

I liked having the capacity even when my download limit was, like, half a gig (this was a while ago). It makes web browsing smoother.

Half a gig download limit? I would go insane! I could almost see that as a daily cap, but if that was for a whole month I would not survive. Sure, the limit wouldn't kill me, I would end up killing myself when I hit the limit downloading a single file... OK, that is a bit harsh, but really, that isn't an Internet worth using. On average, I download close to 1GB a day of legal data. I upload almost as much. On a good day, I could download close to 10GBs. Now that half GB would not work. I would rather be throttled so that I couldn't go fast enough to download a GB a day than to actually have a hard limit of it.

Now I see why you recommended getting 640 GB of hard drive space in that other thread. =P

I just don't feel the need to do a lot of downloading. My daily usage is usually less than 100MB (unless I do something like download a Linux distro, which happens about once in a blue moon).

I mostly use my computer for three things: Web browsing (which doesn't use that much bandwidth), programming (doesn't use the internet at all, except for downloading the occasional toolkit or searching for information), and gaming (mostly singleplayer, so not much internet usage going on there - I would play MMORPGs a lot more if I could, but I don't have time). So none of these require much of a download cap.

Psh. Not for you, maybe, but I'm perfectly happy with my Internet. =) (Would be nice if it was a bit faster, but all things considered it isn't really that bad.)

Of course my download limit is somewhat higher than 500 MB these days! I was a pretty light internet user back then, and it does seem amazing that my monthly downloads used to total to less than 100 MB.

I'm assuming you found another wireless provider who has this 768k/128k. And I'm assuming you can't get wired internet. Wireless is currently quite primitive in my opinion. But if you can't get it wired then you can't get it. Live with what you have.
I would go with the 768k because you'll mostly be downloading data from a host in your game/browsing and uploading the little bit of your data to the host. 128k is more than enough to upload your data.
If you were going to host I'd say get some wired internet to your house because wireless is not going to be very reliable for hosting, speed wise and signal wise.
My wired DSL connection is 3mbps/384kbps although I wish I could get a 512kbps upload to do a little better at hosting. I feel sorry for anyone who has caps on how much they can download/upload. I have nothing blocking me whatsoever. They don't even throttle 6881, the "now not used by others because of throttling" torrent p2p port.

What the heck, 640gb! I'm doing OK with 80GB but I do wish for at least 160GB.

SBC/ATT Yahoo doesn't give me a download limit ^_^

I even asked the ATTYahoo Rep at work and he said no.

Also, since we sold like 10 ATTYahoo plans in a month, ATT gave my whole department free pizza

Yeah, SBC isn't too bad, but now that they've teamed with AT&T their customer support is absolute crap. I'm limited to the 1.5Mbit package due to being just out of range for it, but it doesn't give me any trouble, they tend to update my IP occasionally unlike they did when I was using the 3Mbit (before I moved); gets kind of annoying hosting websites with domains, since I have to manually update the DNS stuff. I'd pay them for a static IP, but right now I shouldn't be paying anything other than what I am if I wanna keep eating.

I agree. The one and only time their customer support helped me successfully was when I asked for the DNS servers.

The dynamic IP is a blessing and a curse. Pain for hosting (I use no-ip.com) but a blessing to get around IP bans on forums and games :P

Yeah, I would use no-ip.com for my stuff but it requires you to pay them for use on domains, plus having to transfer your domain to them (more money). Once I start making more money I'll just go for a static domain package that way I have a few IP's of my own to use instead of just one dynamic DNS. The SBC packages give at least 5 IP's for your static stuff so you can setup a good DNS service instead of being sneaky and registering two nameservers with the same IP ;).

Well, I currently have 120+160+160=440GB, but about 60GB is taken by FAT and Linux. Of my 380GB usable, I have about 20GB free. You would be surprised what you will use when you have room. I haven't had to uninstall a game or manually delete old files since I upgraded last(I went from 200GB to my 440GB, but I had that 200GB slap full constantly). I suppose using my computer as a DVR(Actually, a DAR[Digital Audio Recorder]) does add about 100GB to my normal usage.

When you have the space, you will use it. And you will enjoy it! I remember when 4GB was enough, that was before I had a 60GB, and that 60GB was just enough untill I got my 80GB, but that seemed small after I got my 120GB... and so on and so forth.
In response to Danial.Beta
You remember when 4GB was enough? I thought people that age forgot most things or would that age be at the time of potentially remembering 4MB of hard drive being enough?

Kidding

Good for you Xaunux happy browsing and gaming!

I really want 512kbps now. I'm stuck at 48kb/s upload for torrents and it feels like I'm hitting a ceiling when I see it, like how the zoom works in most RTSs. *cough*Battle for Middle Earth*cough*
