Yes it's rather horrible and stuff but something rather peculiar is going on with it.When the sppedometer for the internet says it's 31.2 kbps,It's tremendously slow.When it says 28.8,like it is now,It's faster,and when it's 21.6 it's at it's peak.Almost Broadband speed.What's going on here I can see is that the speedometer may be showing speed back-to-front.If so,how could such a thing happen??

maybe packets are dropping at the higher speeds? I have no idea. I'd throw it out and go for broadband:P

Yes, and Kbps would mean Kilobits per second, not KiloBytes. Generally speaking, a capital B means Bytes as to were a lowercase means bits. 21.6kbps isn't broadband, nowhere close. I am not sure how he is benchmarking his speed, but 28.8kbps is roughly half the speed of 56k(Because the k is short for kbps). So he is actually going slower than 56k. Now if he was going at 28.8KBps, then he would be doing really, really good for 56k, but that is no possible, seeing as how 56k can't go faster than 56k, it is a limit of the analog system, or something.

The FCC limits dialup to 50.6kbps (which is kiloBAUD not bits or bytes). 56.0kbps modems can never hit their maximum speed.
