You can actually get the Vista Beta if you'd like. Microsoft has to send you an invite to test it (I have 2 different betas on disk), but it's not that hard to obtain. Check it out, google "vista beta" or something of the sort.

Is it sad that reading "Google Vista" made me chuckle?

WE ARE THE GOOGLE. RESISTANCE IS USELESS. YOU WILL BE ASSIMILATED. YES, BILL GATES, EVEN YOU.

if ound the link...and i only use 2 computers both with important work. Is there any possible way to download it but not install it yet?

<_<

Yes. Those links you found don't install it. They download the file, first.

Kind of pointless to get the beta, unless Microsoft didn't program it to stop working once the real Vista is released.

Windows Vista is horrible for playing games. I've read reports of how Windows Vista running Quake 4 won't render textures correctly, no normal maps, no specular maps, no lighting. Quake 4 running on the same system but in Windows XP renders beautifully.

I guess curiosity is good enough of a motive though.

What I hate most about Vista is that they limit your ability to upgrade your PC. On a current Windows system, all you've gotta do is shut it down, open it up, plug-in a RAM stick, close it and turn it back on and you've got additional memory.

With Vista, after closing it up and turning it on you must give Microsoft money just so you can USE the memory stick you just put in.

I forsee that it's going to be really annoying when Microsoft is constantly looking at what you do and quite literally giving you the finger when it comes to controlling your own computer. They think they're the boss of everything, and now they're going to put lots of limitations in for no reason.

Why can't they team up with the folks who made Linux? They could make a Linux operating system that is capable of executing and running native Windows applications. That would be awesome! The only downside is - again - that Microsoft will impose limits. Aren't they rich enough? :\

Can you provide a source for that? I have heard nothing of the sort.

I'll try to be nice. This is one of the silliest things I have ever heard. For starters, Microsoft doesn't "team up" with software developers, they buy them.

Second, Linux was not created by a team of 5, 50, 500, 5000, or 50000. Linux is an open sourced OS made by everyone who wants to touch it. There is a group that dictates what goes in the official kernel updates, but that is the closest to any ownership to Linux. Linus Torvald created the original start for Linux, but it is no longer under his control at all. Sure, he can make suggestions, but he is nothing more than a face to associate Linux with.

Third, the WINE project is attempting to allow Windows based programs to (as closely as possible) natively run on Linux. The problem is that the more you support Windows the more you fall prey to its flaws. Why would we want Linux to flaw itself?

And finally, there is no such thing as "rich enough" to companies.

likewise, plus I don't see how they could to do that on a business level (Dell,Alienware, etc)

Actually, Linus Torvalds still retains a final say as to what goes into the kernel, others can make suggestions but it's totally up to him.

Totally agree on this one, though for games on linux I'd suggest Cedega which can still be obtained via CVS.

You've gotta be kidding. That, or your source is unreliable.

I agree with the boss part, but what limitations are they making for no reason?

Microsoft doesn't try to rob you, and they really don't need to. Don't mistake robbing with good businessmen.

The point I was trying to get across (thought weakly, I do understand) is that they are not going to charge you to upgrade your own hardware. There has got to be some kind of laws against though, though I do doubt it.

No i just think androids source is incorrect as most sources are stop reading noob sources and get in there and do the research pal.

=P That was sarcastic, right?

I don't use sarcasm. If you don't think Bill Gates is one of the most successful and greatest businessmen regardless of how bad their product is, you need to go back and check yourself and do a little research on him.

My opinion is that he is the best. kthx

Basically, If you upgrade your computer Vista thinks it is a new machine. And they limit how many times you can install it.

I don't really give a damn about Bill Gates (=P), it's just funny the way you think that 'good' business tactics (i.e. a way to make people pay you more for you doing nothing) isn't robbery because hey- it is.

If you don't think it's robbery, you need to go back and check yourself and pull that wool down from your eyes!
You just have to reactivate it. It is kinda a pain, but doesn't cost anything.
