You know, my Windows 2000 laptop will do almost anything an XBox 360 can do o_o (with the obvious exception of playing XBox 360 games)

that laptop is probly a much better deal since 90% of xbox games are crap =P

Thats your opinion.

That is sort of the point of an XBox 360, yes. =P The media playing stuff is just extra; I'd rather have it than not. Having this kind of capability in the XBox makes it easier to use the TV to play movies that would normally get played on the PC (which probably doesn't have a couch).

Sure, you can stream stuff from a PC to a TV, but you have to mess around a bit more, and PCs are usually not located near the TV.

Oh, and I should point out that the XBox, while expensive, is cheaper than a new laptop. =) And you're less likely (one hopes) to get the kind of problems that you described over in your Computers & Technology thread. =P

Having said all that, it's still not enough to get me to go and buy an Xbox 360.

He is, however, right. But the same goes for all consoles. There are 20 or so good titles for each system that makes them a must have for somebody. Most games suck, just that simple. I love my PS2, but I only own about 10 games, because I haven't found one worth owning outside those 10(I don't count games I can rent and beat 100% in the 5-7 day rental time).

Granted, you can't play many modern commercial games on a laptop, a laptop does have a lot more uses than a game console. That is why I spent $800 on a laptop and $150 on a PS2. I don't see a laptop as a better deal, considering the price, but it is a better investment.

I really don't know why people must naysay every time someone mentions a particular console. If you don't like it, ignore people talking about it unless they are talking to you, a simple enough strategy to kill all this mindless console war stuff.

consoles go more by genre now, playstation has the RPGs, xbox has the FPS, nintendo has the... crazy experimental titles that mostly fail lol, nintendo is also mainly a kid based system, aaaaaaaand! uh, yea.. xbox and 360 combined have what? like 10 good games max? not to mention that the 360 cant even play regular xbox games, not a good console if u ask me! ps3 will make it look like crap, though the ps3 will be more expensive.. but eh, if i had the money for either itd definetly be going towards the ps3 not the crapbox 360

I beg to differ, the PS2 has a lot of good games across the board. I only own 1 RPG for PS2, and the rest are different genres.

...xbox has the FPS, ...

It has more than that, but they are what they push the most.

...nintendo has the... crazy experimental titles that mostly fail lol, nintendo is also mainly a kid based system, aaaaaaaand! ...

Wrong and wrong. Nintendo strives to create unique gameplay that can't be found on other systems. Games like Super Smash Brothers and most Mario games do not fail, they just aren't your cup of tea. Nintendo's consoles are not for kids, they are age inspecific consoles. "Fun for the whole family" does not have to mean "Fun for just the kids" as people assume, Nintendo proves that.

This is your opinion. I don't care much for the XBox or the 360, but I can appreciate that they target someone besides myself, and don't assume that everything about them is utter crap, including the games.

...not to mention that the 360 cant even play regular xbox games, not a good console if u ask me! ...

Lacking backwards compatibility hurts it in my eyes as well, especial considering that XBox games aren't that out of date.

I plan on getting a PS3 and a Wii. The x360 just doesn't appeal to me in almost any way. There are a limited few games that peek my interest, but not enough to validate the cost of the console, especially when you factor in that those same games will end up on the PS3 as well.

You really should open up you mind to other people's opinions and viewpoints. It will help you get along in this community a lot easier.

most games that are across the board means they released for more then just 1 console, which disqualifies them from this argument =P

when i said crazy stuff i didnt mean super smash brothers, i meant like the touch screen and wii controler, though smash brothers is one of those more kid friendly ones

I only own 2 games that are on multiple platforms.

Touch screen on the DS is actually GOOD and has NOT failed. I own a DS and could not be happier with it. As for the Wii controller, who knows how it will end up, but I really have no idea if it is a good thing or a bad thing yet. We will have to wait 'till it is released to find out. Super Smash Brothers is a great example of a game that is fun for all ages. My mom enjoys that game as much as I enjoy that game which is about as much as my 9yo little brother enjoys the game. When Nintendo says "Fun for all ages" they mean it. There is nothing in SSB that should prevent people of any age from enjoying it. It is simple enough for a little kid to play while being complicated enough to keep even a "master gamer" occupied.

You jest, but the truth is in your joke.
Also, is anyone else that used the DB fall update unable to stream music/video w/o WMP 11 now?

I have to agree, Nintendo keeps coming out with new and original ideas that are good for all ages. That's why the Wii is going to be priced way lower than the newer game systems. Only the hardcore gamers and the rich are going to go buy a PS3 and an XBox360. But reality is, people will go with what is cheap and has a history. Nintendo has both, along with something new and fantastic. Nintendo already dominates the portable industry with their originality and good titles. Nintendo will sell. The rest won't. At least THAT much.

I think the other systems will sell. The 360 has already done as much as expected in sales, and I don't think the PS3 will disappoint. The biggest seller for the two is the increased power standard. The Wii will be underpowered when you compare it to both the 360 and the PS3, and I think it will miss out on some "next-Gen" games simply because of this. Developers wont want to make a lesser version of all of their games just to satisfy the Wii gamers.

Also, the lack of a full standard control with the system will ex-out a lot of game makers. People wont want to buy a control just to play a single game.
