Which do you like more? Why?
Do you like the PSP, with its much more powerful processor, or the Nintendo DS (Lite, or regular, doesn't matter) with it's longer battery life (good for a portable game) or it's very useful backlight (the one on the Lite, I hear bad things about the other DS' light =P)?

The DS Lite. The regular DS is horrible in comparison. I've heard way too many horror stories about the PSP. Little battery life, easy to break, lots of required accessories. It's supposed to be a handheld. If you had a laptop that was easy to break, required you to plug in various objects and such - nobody would get it. Portability is a key issue in well.. portable consoles.

Portability is a key issue in well.. portable consoles. I've read many horror story's about the PSP too, which is why I recently (today) took back my PSP and got a Nintendo DS Lite Polar White, a long with reserving a copy of The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Eragon, and Final Fantasy V (Gameboy Advance), and a nice starter kit with all kinds of goodies, all for only a little more than what the PSP Entertainment Pack cost, with it's (1) game. I also like how the Nintendo DS games are a bit cheaper. They also have a more wide variety of games that I like. I also don't usually like my gaming device to be much more than just that, a gaming device, unlike the PSP. The PSP plays music, well, I have an MP3 player. It plays videos, well, I have a portable DVD player. It lets you view pictures, well, I also have a digital camera. =P A lot of extra things that I don't necessarily want to pay all that money for. A PSP looks so fragile, too =( I'd be horrified of just touching it and getting a nasty fingerprint on it, or turning it on for the first time only to be greeted by dead pixels that Sony won't replace. |

The DS Lite. The regular DS is horrible in comparison. Exactly. I like the DS becuase mainly, I only HAVE a DS. The original DS had good lighting and all that and is a good system. But the DS Lite is in fact BETTER with its better lighting(makes colors more vivid) and rearranged/redesigned features(new mic placement, bigger stylus, etc). As an example, the rating of a DS would be 9 and a DS Lite would be 9.5. Both extremly good, but DS Lite is just better. What I especially like about the DS is the sleep mode that is in most(if not all, I'm not sure) games. |
The NDS, for an extra 100 bucks, it can do everything the PSP can(NDS Opera Browser+FlashCards and Passme).
Besides, NDS is alot more fun to play with :P |
I think this is the reason why people want the DS ;) http://www.vgcats.com/comics/extras/ds.php
Speaking of PSP (well, sony), I think this comic strip is relating the PS3 and Wii, atleast in my opinion >_> http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=212 - GhostAnime |
I've never had a problem with my PSP. I've had it for almost two months now, it's yet to break or malfunction in any sort of way, and it really didn't require anything else to get up and going. The car charger came with it, as well as an outlet charger, and a 1gb memory card.

I've never had a bad experience with the PSP as far as bugs go, but it's just not that appealing a system. The games would be great if they were on a console but on a handheld they just aren't that good. You can play Liberty City Stories on the PSP, or you can play the real version (San Andreas) on the PS2.
With the DS I feel more like the games are designed for it instead of just being attempts at making console games (even the games that aren't based around the stylus). As far as the features go, half of them have nothing to do with games and more importantly are obsolete by now. It plays MP3s, but even cheap MP3 players can outdo it. It plays movies, but again a cheap MP3 player or phone can do that, and more importantly you can rip the DVD version to them rather than buying a whole new UMD version. |
I didn't care for the original DSs, but when they updated them, the got a lot better. I own a DSLite, and love it. It plays GBA games on top of the DS games so it has a very large library of games on release.
I can't say I have ever had a chance to give a PSP a fair trial, but I can say that I am happy with my DS, and I doubt I would have been as happy with a PSP. One thing I like about the DS that I didn't like about the GBA(First version), which I believe would be a problem with the PSP, was that the screen was in line with the buttons. This caused me to hold it at an uncomfortable angle. But with the DS, the majority of the information is being displayed at a higher spot, allow a more comfortable hold (Close to that of the original game). If you are wanting to buy one of the two, I would say go after the DS. All around, it is a solid hand held. The price is reasonable and has a very large selection of games. http://picasaweb.google.com/Danial.Beta/DSLite |

Two PSP units no more than a meter away from each other experiencing massive lag. I haven't played much PSP multiplayer apart from that so I can't say if this is common, but I would have thought that if one game could be counted on to have smooth multiplayer it'd be Tekken. I don't think the PSP works this way (I may be mistaken) but on the DS a huge plus for me was that not all games/multiplayer modes require two carts. My multiplayer DS experience has been built around this feature. I was doing a lot of traveling back towards the start of the year and I'd constantly run into people who had a DS but they'd rarely have the same games as me. Thanks to this functionality I got to play with them anyway. Naturally there are some games and multiplayer modes that are so complex they require everyone have a cart, but developers really seem to have tried to push single cart multiplayer where possible. I think they realized free multiplayer is the ultimate hook to get people to buy their game. Also someone mentioned the hibernation feature on the DS somewhere else in this thread. That works on every game (including GBA games). It's a very handy hardware feature. It's useless as a pause feature (hitting the start button is much quicker), but it's useful for when you need to stop playing and do something else. You can pause it, close it, put it in your pocket then get it out later and continue later. Like an extension on pausing. It's a life-saver. |
The nasty stories I read on the internet kind of drew me away from the PSP, and I really didn't see many bad things about the DS, so I got it, and then saw all the games for it that looked so fun, I figure I havn't made a mistake =P

Yeah.
I originally bought the PSP, but then returned it and got a DS, and reserved a copy of 3 different games, as well as got this kit that came with all sorts of goodies for the same price as what the PSP cost =P |

The NDS has the touch screen, never seen (as far as I know) on a portable gaming system, as well as the mic. The PSP is just the PS1/PS2 in a smaller package. I already have a PS2, so why buy a PSP? =P |
Which happens alot. I don't own a PSP myself, but I can speak from experience on previous Sony products. I've had two PS2s and they aren't very strong. The door easily comes off and when the door comes off the disk reader(which I read is -easily- damageable anyhow) becomes open to dust and damage. It's good your PSP is good still. =) I'm just precautions. When I went to get my cell phone I intentionally got a cell phone that flips because I knew I would end up dropping it, and I have a few times. It's just my way of being sure.

if( $Reader_Query == "Why?" ){ echo 'ZeroCrash_Comment['PSPvDS'] = 0 because Zero only owns a PSP.'; } //Was bored. ;P |
DS all the way! Tonnes of games, battery, wifi, multiplayer, bomberman(best multiplayer DS game EVER), Mario Kart, Animal Crossing(I played wifi with my friend who was sitting next to me) and did i mention touch screen?
I think I've proved my point. If that isn't enough, here is more proof!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hUKIWundEA |
