Soooo, your basically on a PC?

The PS3 took a closer approach to the modern gaming hardware and turned it into a souped up PC.

Souped up? I dunno... seems more like souped down to me.
*ducks* Seriously though, the broad range of functionality of a PC is near-impossible to emulate on a console. Tell me, can your PS3 run Photoshop? Edit videos? Do sound editing? Can you program things using the controller? No? Didn't think so. =) Given that it would be quite possible to build a computer that is more powerful than the PS3 (albeit for more money, since Sony is taking a loss on the hardware), it's hardly accurate to call the PS3 a "souped up" computer. It's not any more powerful; just different. |

Weeellll...
Likely, the PS3 would have a range of optimisations to its instruction set, processor(s) in general, graphics card(s) in general, that wouldn't be there for a PC, which would help make it basically a faster PC. All consoles do, as far as I understand the idea. But the hardware will be obsolete in six months time, so its moot. |

Can you program things using the controller? Do you remember that program which comes with the demo disk for the ps2 i can't remember the name of it but its like BASIC. |

I just waited 17 hours in line for my Nintendo Wii and haven't stopped playing it until I had to come to school. I haven't really slept either. Twilight Princess has to be the best game I have EVER played.

Do sound editing? Can you program things using the controller? Find an open-source-type programmer to port something from x86 linux to ps3 linux, and sure :) It's not any more powerful; just different. Being different allows it to be more powerful in different areas (and of course, less in others). Having 7ish processors can really help parallelizable code. |
I can do all that on my pc....
I hate the expression FTW if anyone cares =P, For The Win? It just doesnt go good with most sentences people throw it on the end of. "Blue Tooth Keyboard and mouse FTW!!! :D" Blue Tooth Keyboard and mouse FOR THE WIN!!! :D...I dont get it. |

It is a Celebrity Squares reference. Usually they would say "I pick the center square (etc) for the win." It might not go exactly like that but you get the basic point.

He means it does picture and video editing. Which it does, just not with photoshop.
