Alright. Let me put it simple. I have money. But I wanna know which would be the better choice. Can anyone elaborate the features for both handhelds? I've looked around and frankly, I'm not getting any good reports except for before the PSP was released. So anyone mind giving me details on both handhelds?
Put it this way, DS has good games but lacks the ability to play mp3's and videos.

PSP has crap games but can play mp3's and videos.

If you want the handheld with the most support get the DS. And if you are a fan of Dragon Quest. Dragon Quest 9 is comming out for the DS. :)

Sometimes I find it hard to move around in games on the PSP with its little nubby thingy...

Erm INCORRECT.

You can now play mp3s but im not sure about videos.

There has to be more features than that. I'll be using my handheld for more than just games, you know. What about internet and multi-player features, etc. etc.?

Then you will want to have the PSP.

Lies! He'll want a DS Lite. He can have it do everything a PSP can minus the internet browsing with this Plus, he can put ROMs and homebrew software on it <<;

He can use the Opera browser on the DS. http://www.opera.com/products/devices/nintendo/

I thought that was only in japan though?

The DS has strong Multi-Player and online play(Although a slightly limited selection that actually take advantage of this). If you live in the US you won't be surfing the net right now, but there will be a US release of the Opera browser for the DS at some point in the future.

I love my DS as a handheld. It does everything I want it to. The only real complaint I have is that the second screen is touch, which some would think was good, but too many companies feel obligated to use it and tend to overuse it. All around, the DS is a better handheld for games.

I was just about to say that, basically almost everything the PSP can do with a lower price.

Yes, and if he has the time, he can find a homebrew Web Browser, so it is all good :3

DS Lite FTW!
It's not really a feature for feature comparison. The PSP is (by today's standards) a pretty weak media player, browser that runs poor imitations of console games. It's media player/browser stuff is comparable to a phone, not great but it does do the job. UMD movie support is pretty much dead but I'm guessing it's not hard to find a homebrew application that will let you play AVI files.

The DS on the other hand runs good games and that's about it. It's got single copy multiplayer on most multiplayer games (although usually it's a little more limited than if you both of a copy of the game). That makes it very easy to just walk up to someone and play with them.
The stylus, while annoying at first, breaths life into a lot of the titles that would otherwise be pretty boring. Those party games you usually don't pay attention to are actually really fun when they use the stylus. In games like Metroid Hunters and StarFox it works a million times better than that little circle thing on the PSP.

If you choose Sony over Nintendo when it comes to consoles because of the different libraries of games you're in a bit of a bind. The DS doesn't have the titles like GUN, GTA, Battlefront, Tekken, etc. The PSP does have them but they haven't been done very well (and because you're playing the PS2 version at home you really notice it).
So you're basically stuck between crap versions of your favourite games and good games you probably wouldn't normally play.

So basically, the DS would be the smarter deal. It's cheaper, I enjoy the games already, and much easier to handle. It has plenty of features and more to be released also. The PSP, I've heard so many bad things about... But people around here think it's the greatest thing. And I thought it was fun when I played it. But so was the DS. I think I'll buy both, but I'll get the DS for Christmas.

I've got a few friends like that but they don't really seem to play their PSPs that much. They just seem to use them in situations where they need a distraction. Everyone I know with a DS plays it at home as well as on the go.

I have a fairly low opinion of the PSP, but at the end of the day if I had one I'm sure I could find some games I like. Avoid Splinter Cell though. It's so bad you wont want to play the good Splinter Cell games anymore. =P

I'm buying a DS Lite this week. The DS can do just about all that the PSP can now.

Good to hear. Picked out any games yet?

MK is especially good(I play it every once in a while) and so is the new mario bros..Just beware though..It can be beaten within 1-2 days for non-casual gamers..0_0
I have both systems and I personally like the PSP more. It is easier to do homebrew and it has some fun online shooters with a lot of players online such as Socom. But what I recommend is look at the games for both PSP and DS, if you like shooters get a PSP, if you like the type of games nintendo makes and puzzle games get a DS. Both are great systems I think. Who really cares what the sales show.
