Alright, so recently, People have been telling me that they can't send me messages over MSN unless I message them first. A very annoying problem. Any info on how to fix this?

Same thing happens on Trillian actually. I've tried reinstalling Windows Live Messenger as well.
Sounds similar to the hosting-with-a-router problem, in that you can make outbound connections, but can't receive inbound connections. I thought MSN put all its messages through a central server though, except for stuff like file transfers which can sometimes be done via a direct connection.

Do you have a router? You could try finding out what port MSN uses, and forwarding that port to your computer.

It happens to everybody. Just wait i guess.
Your probly appear offline and it says you didn`t get it when the network is just lagging. If not your MSN is messed so either re-do it or use the Simple windows version.

Windows Live Messenger doesn't use a LOT. It's about half that of Steam's and of Dream Daemon's hosting the new version of Seika. It's doesn't use much more than AIMs and uses less than Dream Seeker's on Seika. Firefox also uses more than Windows Live Messenger.

Yes! Finally a messenger I can use! It only uses "about half of what a client of a 3D game uses". Great! Finally I can get away from using GAIM, which is using 'only' 16 MB of RAM at the time. Let's instead goto Live Messenger for the full 100MB+ drain!

It's a known fact that Live Messenger sucks. It uses way too much memory for such a minor purpose it serves (sending/receiving of text messages over the internet). An IM client is not supposed to have useless crap like "buzzers" and "handwritten messages" put in. It's supposed to have the ability to send message, with perhaps smilies for those that like them (I don't, so there has to be an option to turn them off) and file transfer capabilities.

Personally I find all IM clients to use way too much memory than they're supposed to. I don't like GAIM using 16 MB of RAM, either. I want a messenger that only uses 3 MB of RAM at most and is very very efficient, giving me only the things I need.
This brings up another question: why do so many programs allocate that much memory?

All Steam is is a tool that lists and manages various games. <_<

It's actually a pretty simple program once you get around the networking part.

Pff, i use msn messenger and I love it. This is 2007, I want pretty.

The only issue I have with it, is sometimes a chat windows not focused and they'll write to me, but it won't ding me, so I end up not replying for something like 10 mins until i check their window.

I tried GAIM and it was incredibly ugly.

Nishiatsu was right, waiting did fix it. I wonder what was up.

google for console/text-based messengers - there are several out there. sometimes it's the interaction with the GUI that creates the large amouts of memory usage.
