I agree and what is worse is the fact that in a lot of places, they hold the parents responsible for what their children do. Which is ridiculous. If I had a kid and he did what this guy did, not only would he be grounded forever, have any privileges taken away, but I would request they put him in jail for awhile so he can see what it is like.
Yeah, because stripping people of joy is a sure way to make them feel like its worth it to change what they did wrong. </sarcasm>
I seriously can't stand the theory that some parents so lovingly adhere to, where teaching your kid and helping them grow up involves neutering their ability to experience the world around them and inducing fear into them. Fear of doing something because a bad response would occur is adequate when dealing with small children who aren't yet smart enough to understand certain things, but is never a thorough way of dealing with anyone who can actually think for themselves. Making sure your kid understands why what they did was wrong, is a thousand times more effective than telling them it was wrong and just shuffling them off to some place where they can't do anything.
Anyway in this case it's not because they're his parents it's because they're all on the same insurance policy. If you and I were on it we would suffer too.
