heres me enjoying alpha effects to make my water skills look sexier.

:| If theres official documentation i can use instead of just fiddling and if i can contribute id prefer to. Thanks. My e-mail is [email protected]

Looks nice but...
It's called a "private test" for a reason.
If you already have the files, the BYOND staff isn't going to smile nicely upon you.

Damm you. Damn you to hell.

This is gonna be like MUGEN. Private testers leak files, project closes down but gets revived by the community.

And I don't like seeing noobs in power.
Heh, this is just like BYOND 3.5 ++.

Looks like the staff have someone untrustworthy in their midst...!

Google is the leak. Needless to say, these builds look nice.

This isn't going to happen. The reason the beta files aren't password-locked behind three levels of encryption and a two-foot steel door guarded by robot monkeys with rocket launchers and mean streaks is the fact that we don't really mind if people try it out... but obviously all use is at your own risk, so if you develop cancerous lesions or start to think that your cat is pretty sexy, them's the breaks.

[edit]Oh, I should point out that we definitely don't want the link distributed, however.[/edit]

The reason we aren't holding an open beta is because we have a dedicated testing system, we're not ready to release it for public consumption, and we'd rather handle bug reports from people who are capable of making bug reports in a fashion that's actually understandable. I don't want to sound condescending or anything, but people giving 3.5++ bug reports (or just plain "it doesn't work" reports) through the BYOND Support system must have invented their own language or something, because most of the BYOND Staff can't understand a word they're saying. It's like they're Australian or something.

yeah, i cant stand austrialians either.
lol. Yeah no problem Jtgibson, if theres an e-mail i can send bug reports too ill help out. I noticed that i had dreammaker crash a few times while trying to use customized proportions, also when selecting multiple direction states that were already empty and hitting delete crashed it, and also i would like to mention that layers that are obscenely high, aka the ones i was using for onscreen with layer =99999 dont work anymore. Which is good, i was being a tad silly to do that. However youll notice that when 4.0 comes out there will be lots of people going, "my on screen images dont work".

Anywho, I'll be good i promise, just thought id offere to help.

Jtgibson said they didn't want the link spread, and you should be able to find them yourself. It's actually really simple.

As for a release date, there really isn't one yet.

Haha seconded!

And as for your bug reports. You don't know which bugs have and haven't been reported. When stated "dedicated bug testing team" they meant it. There is literally a lot of bugs which have been found. Chances are, you wont find any bugs which aren't already reported.

Personally, I still think the 4.0 beta files should have been moved to a more secure location.

And anyone else who goes looking, you wont have any documentation for it, so you wont be able to do anything really. Nothing like the stuff Nadrew has been showing off, anyway.

I've managed to put some stuff like Nadrew's together. But that was only the really simple stuff(And even then, it might not be the same at all). Having documentation on the procs that allow interaction with the custom windows directly would be a huge help though.

Well, as Tiberath said, chances are that the bugs are already known. We'd prefer to avoid duplication, so up until the release you might want to just jot those down on virtual paper somewhere until the public release comes; if they still exist in the public release, feel free to report them, but until then no one is really equipped to handle the reports. Besides all that, many people don't report their BYOND versions very well -- the powers that be might get 3.5++ bug reports and 4.0 bug reports from people who don't actually say what version they're using. =P

There's currently some discussion about getting a Bugzilla system up so that we can allow bug reports from outside the primary testing community.

That was actually a side effect introduced in 3.5++ -- layers were capped at 1024. You can still use any floating point value in the range from 0 to 1024, however, so 337.867 would work just fine if you wanted to put something on a higher layer than 337.866.
In response to Jtgibson
thats wicked, then i can put layers between two common layers (ie mob and object or object and turf) without having to deal with the idea of going through and setting new layers for everything. Thank you.
In response to Smoko
Ive been able to do some pretty wicked stuff.

Ive used their new icon/Scale() proc to make a Choji move in my naruto game where you become 3x3 tiles big (overlays included). Ive used the alpha values and mapcolors to do make the player go semi transparent to mimick rock ninjas who blend in, ive made fire and water semi transparent and trust me it really makes byond look better. Ive learned how to use the interface editor pretty good, me and a friend of mine managed to figure out a lot of useful commands to change button variables etc. I have an entire output screen for combat information thats no segregated from OOC. So i mean, im getting some serious use out of this beta. I really wish they would just release it because beta or not its got some amazing improvements.

Notice the sneaky transparent man (and semi transparent blood?) Here1

Oh my, a very huge opponent (and notice my little version of myself?) Here2

Im huge and using my semi transparent fire!
Here3

That's pretty neat. This allows me to plan out my next byond game campaign really nicely. :O
