Well iam not sure where to put this But... I would like to report this game.

http://games.byond.com/hub/NLSStaff/NarutoLegendaryShinobi

For Accepting and asking for donations for a fan game.
Something should be done, warn them or take the hub down.

Take this to the support form.

Sorry, Will do.

Charging people money to play, and accepting donations are two different things, sadly. There is nothing that can really be done if they simply have a donations form. However if they are charging money for in game benefits, or they are charging money for the players to play the game, they are breaking copyrights. I never did look at the hub entry, it's anime and I don't care to.

This is non-related to the complaint but, I personally think it's pretty funny that in their list of "rules", it has "Don't kill in training areas". Now, you'd think a competant progammer could make it so one COULDN'T kill in training areas...

It also raises an interesting loophole. Whats stopping someone from setting up a front to handle money... Say giving people a blog in return for money, and then give people benefits for having paid for the blog within their game? Don't think it couldn't happen? It's already happening right here with BYOND memberships. Theres at least a couple fangames that offer extra benefits to BYOND members, so with a half decent lawyer a company could make a case of BYOND profiting off of their intellectual property.

That's the fangames' problem. BYOND hasn't done a single thing to encourage use of the client.IsByondMember() procedure for anything. You could use it to give perks to non-members, if you wanted.

That doesn't mean said company won't try to go after BYOND. I mean if you are going to sue people, you try to sue as many people as possible.

Good 'ol US of A. Sue 'em. Sue 'em some more. And then sue everyone else. Twice.

http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/294596/ woman_sues_mars_for_making_starburst.html

Fox News reports that after biting into a lemon candy (which, incidentally, is their most popular flavor) in 2005, the woman's bottom and top rows of teeth stuck together, causing her jaw to become misaligned when she attempted to open her mouth. She is now claiming to have a condition known as temporal mandibular joint dysfunction and is blaming it on the candy.

McArthur is suing the Mars Corporation, the maker of Starburst Fruit Chews, for $25,000 to pay for her rehabilitation. She is also wishing to be compensated for her pain and suffering, as she is now having trouble eating, sleeping, and talking.

People like sueing too much... Take the hub down....

It doesn't matter if BYOND encourages it or not, but rather the fact that they allow it which is the potential problem. To say thats okay, would say its okay for people to set up a system just like it, except one in where they are recieving the money.

lies, gekisens hub was suppressed for having a paypal donate button up. So if Gekisen gets suppressed then i expect all other games to face the same rules.

Here's a scenario:

I have a fan game.
I direct people to MSN in game.
I conduct the business through MSN, and accept money through paypal.

Now the question is, can Microsoft be sued for it? I'm also getting the money through paypal. Can paypal be sued for it?

The fact of the matter is that it's a simple donations box, and unless he is directly voilating something, by doing more than saying "donate to this game here", there isn't much that can be done, and any law suit would just be thrown out of court.

ah, so going back in time is the solution!

Usually punishment isn't given equally to everything here.

Sorry.

They're completely different.

You don't *have* to donate to play the game, but if they charge money to play, then you have to pay if you want to play.

Capitan, our temporal dilation stream has collapsed and it's causing temporal mandibular joint dysfunction.

Yay for Sci-Fi gibberish!
In response to Danial.Beta
  • temporal: dealing with the temple (spot on side of head, near where the jawbone meets the skull)
  • mandibular: dealing with the mandible, the bone of the jaw

I'd like to see how a "temporal dilation stream" works, and how it collapses to create a dysfunction of the temperomandibular joint.
