Well I was thinking, its kinda boring only having 4000-4500 players online at once, and even then it seems only about 1000 of them are actually logged into games, do you think that with the release of 4.0 or otherwise that byond will ever get 20000+ players at once?

I already asked some byond staff if there was anything I could do (such as advertising) to boost byond's popularity, they said no, because they are against 'spamming'... -_-, but its not spam, its advertising, in relevant places to people who probably want to know about byond.

Anyway I think byond should do some sort of advertising campaign... If everyone who plays video games knew about byond we might have 30000+ people on here, and if everyone who is a fan of DBZ and Naruto knew about byond, itd probably be like 50000+ people.
What?
No!
We don't need that!
Byond's main server breaks down enough as it is!(No offense... well maybe some)
Besides, the less people there are, the less weird fan games there will be.

We hope so! We are growing daily and I think it is only a matter of time before the userbase really takes off. We need to optimize some things to handle the load, but it's all in the works. One of the primary reasons behind the guild structure is to allow us to maintain larger communities of diverse users.

We definitely plan on giving incentives for users to advertise, and you are more than welcome to bring people. I would prefer that we didn't get a reputation for spamming, though, so some finesse is required.
I usually tell people at school about BYOND if they are interested in video games. Though, it would be nice to have a few ads around the interweb.

Bringing back the affiliate system you guys had at one stage or something a little sexier? 1 extra day membership for every person brought by a referral, that would be hot. =P

I think we can put up with some more weird fan games if it means we get some more players.

Yeah, I think we'll get 20000+ players, with a little advertising. We don't have to spam anyone to do it, though.

Since when does BYOND's server "break down?"
Dont get me wrong im all for BYOND's growth. But at the same time i kind of like the small community. Alot of us know each other and thats a good thing. Once 20000+ players start to com e thats not exactly going to be the case.

I get what your saying, but in order to keep BYOND alive, we need to have enough people. Hosting doesn't pay for itself. How do they pay for hosting, anyway? Dream Maker and Dream Seeker are free and I don't see any ads, how do they do it?

The fifteen dollar memberships and a little money out of thier pockets pays for the server. If they had a really great server of thier own they could use that with a decent upload speed; but I think they are preoccupied with 4.0 and thier own lives to do the maintainance.
