Does anyone who is into entertainment technology enough to use Blu-Ray or HD-DVD even rent movies?

Once the 60GB model runs out and the non-backwards-compatible 80GB model is all that's left though, it will no longer even be a fine machine. I have to point out, it's still backwards compatible. We've been dealing with it since day one and while it's a less favorable option it works. It had a bumpy start, but you guys wont see the worst part. |

Now I've thought about it it makes sense. Blockbuster dropped HD-DVD because people who brought into HD-DVD were actually buying a HD-DVD player. Meanwhile there are a bunch of Blu-Ray users who didn't go out of their way for their player (aka, it's part of their PS3), and thus would be more inclined to hire movies than buy.

I don't quite understand what you're claiming here. While they are remaking some of the games, they are by no means replacements for the old games so that they can substitute backwards compatibility to make money. They aren't forcing anyone to buy a new version. What exactly were you getting at?

...I don't get it. I've listed "fun" there. I'd like to think you were being sarcastic in some weird way (and you'd be wrong if you were being sarcastic), but I've detected no hint of sarcasm in there at all.
Then again... it is text. :O |

I doubt they'd lose much speed based on comparisons of the PS2 and the PS3 and they'd probably lose none in the PS1 games. They know the systems prior to the PS3 and emulation should be both an easy and efficient task for them. Software emulation is never fast, and for PS2 games I suspect the slowdown will be noticeable. They aren't forcing anyone to buy a new version. What exactly were you getting at? Many of the classic games for the PSX, the good ones, are now considered rare games. A lot of the RPGs for the PS1 can get very expensive, even if it is just CD only. Many people may not be willing to pay $75.00 for a old, PS1 game, that might be missing the book, case or extras that might have been included with it. Instead, Sony can turn around, re-release these classic games at a much more reasonable price, with updates visuals and sounds. When the backwards compatibly becomes an issue, it is kind of like they are forcing people to buy their re-mastered games, because the originals won't work. When instead they could have just as easily made the system 100% backwards compatible. |

Recently everyone has been saying Sony sucks and their console is going to fail. No one can save Sony now. Killzone 2 - COD4 looks just as good and is out for the 360, and also UT3 will be out for the 360 as well. I haven't bothered to read any other posts. |

PSX don't cost nearly as much as $75... In fact, you can buy them very cheap, for around $10 a game.

I can tell you for a fact that my GC is the most played console in my house. And we have a Wii. (Just not so many games out for it, yet). There are multiple games that we've loved to bits for it - SSBM, Final Fantasy: CC, Baiten Kaitos, Metroid Prime 1 and 2, Wind Waker. It had plenty of great games for it.
At the video-gaming group at my uni, the PS2 and the GC are easily the most played consoles - PS2 for Soul Calibur 3 and Guitar Hero 1 and 2, and GC for SSBM and Naruto GNT 4 (imported from Japan). The GC really was not that much of a failure. EDIT: Just remembered a few more games. Tales of Symphonia, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. Pikmin 1&2 (2 was better, though) |
