A man and a woman walk into LaGuardia airport to buy a plane ticket to England from a small, transatlantic airline. When they reach the booth, they give the saleswoman their destination and, to their surprise, she places some keys on the counter and says, "You're in luck, for a limited time we're giving people a new plane to try out for flights to England."
The man and woman look at each other with both glee and disbelief.
"Now," the salewoman continues, "you can keep the plane, but please understand that it's experimen..."
"Yoink!" the woman says, snatching the keys from the counter.
"Wait!" the saleswoman raises a hand to stop them from turning away, "We also offer free lessons and an almost complete set of technical docum..."
"Laterz, mah Sucka!" the man waves, following the woman.

On the tarmac, the two hurriedly climb aboard the sleek, new aircraft and settle into the two seats of the cockpit. A span of hundred's of instruments and readouts criss cross the huge dashboard, impossibly jammed into every nook and cranny, buzzing and glowing with power, control and information.
The two sit staring at the controls in silence for a full five minutes.
"This sucks," the man says.
The woman looks at him. "Yeah, let's walk."

I just love how people who are defending BYOND are taking the criticisms so harshly. I think BYOND should take this opportunity to evaluate the reactions from ALL BYOND users and then make tweeks and adjustments based on those reactions.

We are. But we're also giving the highest priority to bug reports, especially good bug reports, and we're doing a lot of pruning of the inevitable useless reports and the complaints that help no one. There have actually been far fewer complaints than expected, so that's good. On the other hand, we have to muck through a whole lot of stupid to find the one in ten bug reports that helps us stabilize the program.

Yeah a lot of these complaints are not really all that great, but they still might be something to consider. I mean, I have heard other people complain about the Macro problem that was less retarded.

A feature to satisfy these users (to an extent) is actually planned. But new features have to take a backseat to bug reports, which is why we're generally not fielding a lot of the feature requests right now.

Also we're pretty well blowing off anyone who posts crap like "It doesn't work anymore!" because they're not giving us useful info we can use to make it work. The biggest reason some bugs don't get fixed is because we're never given a report we can make use of, or a test case we can reproduce. And Vista's horrendous ME-esque suckitude has been a further obstacle, as it has caused some incompatibilities that are darn hard to diagnose. This is made all the worse by the fact that Vista does not tend to attract the power users who give us the best bug reports.

Here I was thinking your story was going to go nowhere. I expected to get to the end and find 'you wasted a minute of my life with your post now I'm wasting a minute of yours!'.

I'm so cut. =(
I tried my best with the limited time I had to make the tests.

I can't load any games at all in 4.0 with Vista. The options box with the connection info for a game comes up and the bottom of it flashes doing nothing. It's an improvement from one of the earlier betas, it made my laptop lock up.

This is with and without OpenGL.

I actually really like 4.0, no grumbles what so ever. Keep up the good work guys! :D

It's no slur against you; you and Jon88 have been our best testers for Vista, but you've been a minority. I did say that Vista doesn't tend to attract power users; that doesn't mean there aren't any.

On top of all of that, I'm pretty sure they had to rebuild the Dream Seeker from the ground up, too.

... which, as I imagine, is no simple task.

Relax, I was joking. =)

I have vista, and I'm pretty computer literate. Maybe if there was some directions to make/test bugs, I could do it in my spare time.

Actually DreamSeeker is a curious beast. It's basically a mix of 20-40% old code with the rest going to skin support, in the form of brand new code or modifications to old code. But as you can imagine, a lot of old stuff was already being phased out, and still exists as unused (but now empty) function calls that were created for when DS was also your pager connection.
