I've never played a game that has voice-chat before, so I can't say I'm going to miss it, but I'm re-he-he-heally looking forward to Brawl/Dojo or whatever they're naming it.

Everyone will be on Brawl. Just because it doesn't have voice chat doesn't mean it is over. Voice Chat means nothing when playing Super Smash, well to me anyway. I'd rather concentrate on winning >_<.

Taunting is one of the main parts of playing games with your friends. Being able to talk and laugh while playing is an important social aspect. Voice chat gives you that. Without it, how am I going to taunt my friends, or even give them praise for a great move. Sure, there's some silly system for showing up some generic things, but that's not really doing the job. Unless "Nah Ehh, that was BS!" is in the automatic message system, online would not be used by me (except for the fun of testing it out).
Nintendo really needs to look at their online model and update it. It's really taking some bad turns and needs to smooth it out. For starters, remove the silly friend code crap. And all the DS games I've seen don't have server listings. It's either join a friend through a friend code or randomly join a server. I have no problems with an automatic server picker, but I need to be able to manually sort and join if I want to. And why not use a user generated ID? Sure, you're going to get people who use bad names and whatnot, but don't you get that anyways? You could just put it in your player name of that game. I see no end user protection provided, and it just complicates things to use the friend codes. I can memorize my PSN ID, but I can't memorize my Pokemon Diamond friend code. All that rant being said, I hope Brawl is great. What little I've seen of it looks very promising and I loved the other two Super Smash games. What I'd really love is a Super Smash DS. I think it's a perfect console, and you could have rather tall levels, which adds to the fun for me(the taller levels are the ones I have the most fun in.) |

First off, Brawl won't be out for a while yet, within that time frame, we could see anything happen. Online was expected, yet it was just now announced. Just because chat hasn't been announced yet doesn't mean it won't be a feature. There is already 1 kind of mic for the Nintendo Wii for that new game Boogey. Also, the Nintendo DS has a headset mic for Pokemon Pearl and Diamond, so you can chat to people with that. Considering that the Nintendo Wii is compatible with bluetooth technology, it isn't all that far out to say that we may end up seeing a wireless headset from Nintendo sometime soon.
Finally, to be honest, even if we don't see voice chat, that isn't going to stop me from playing one of the biggest Nintendo fighting games ever online. The fact is, voice chat isn't a necessity, it is simply a bonus. To be honest, I am kind of sick of voice chat due to how crude and rude the Xbox Live users usually are. Flaming all the time about how people are "cheap" or cheating, or calling people all sorts of slurs, it isn't really something I enjoy all that much anymore. Also, about the Xbox 360 HD thing. The Xbox 360 already supports some USB thumbdrives and even some USB HD units. The PS3 is also just as open ended. You can slam a 100GB Laptop HD in the PS3 and it'll work just fine, or even plug in a extra USB HD unit. |

Yeah, I think that voice chat is overrated (and even if it were included, I wouldn't use it)
Sure, garbage-talking is one of the most fun aspects of multiplayer (especially with the SSB series), but I'd only want to engage in it with people I know, and if I know them, it's likely they'd just be over at my house playing in the same room... |

For me it's the lobby that makes voice-chat so important. Being able to say 'hey guys wait a minute while I grab a drink' or even 'I've got work in the morning so I'll have to stop hosting after the next match' really improves the experience for everyone.
Setting teams and selecting maps requires some sort of input from the other players. It also allows people to get creative and have some fun. Ie, when everyone starts getting bored you tell everyone to pick the weakest character and have a special session. Super Smash Bros doesn't need voice-chat because it's going to be an outstanding game, but it would be greatly enhanced by it. Revenant Jesus wrote: Brawl won't be out for a while yet, within that time frame, we could see anything happen. Yeah but let's be realistic here. Based on how they've handled online so far does that seem like the sort of thing Nintendo would do? Danial.Beta wrote: What I'd really love is a Super Smash DS. The DS is perfect for a party fighter like Smash Bros. The multiplayer atmosphere that handheld can generate is amazing. |

Yeah, 'maybe' they'll include the voice-chat support. In all honesty I don't see it happening. If it was to be they would have included it with those taunt things as a way to communicate with your friends.
Like I said, I don't know about everyone else (and quite frankly don't understand why they wouldn't mind not being able to talk to their friends in the game) but when I play games with my friends I want to be able to talk with them without going threw some backwater ways to do it (say bringing your computer downstairs next to your TV and setting up a vent/teamspeak server). If people don't like the voice chat, they could always turn it off, or not wear their headset, or put the volume all the way down, or mute the people they don't want to listen to. The only memory units that work on the 360 are the xbox360 20gb/120gb HDDs (or hdd's with hacked 360 software on them), and the 360 memory cards. The PS3 however you can use pretty much any laptop hdd. |

Yeah they have those taunts, but how much do you know about them? Perhaps those taunts serve a further purpose then just taunting the enemy? There has been a few fighting games, where they included taunts as a type of attack that lowered a target's defense. Just because they have those in the game, does not rule out the fact voice chat could still be.

I'd rate it as having about as much chance of having voice-chat as being an epic space thriller set to the musical stylings of Jackie Chan and Richard Cheese. In theory it could happen.

If I ran a movie studio, I'd give you the money to make your dream come true. Totally serials. But wait, Jackie Chan does music? Also, Richard Cheese is great. |

He explained the purpose of them in his update. What other purpose would they have? It's possible there's some other thing to it, but like voice chat being put in it's doubtful.
I'm not saying there's no chance they'll put it in, but until they confirm it I'm going to presume they aren't putting it. |
Although with such a wide variation in the age of the userbase voice-chat on Smash Bros would just be awkward.
