I want to get a degree in computer science preferably in a college that offers a wide variety of courses such as 2D/3D game design, introductory programming courses, algorithms, cryptography, operating system design, compiling, etc...
I do not plan on taking all of those courses, but having the choice to would be great. If I don't make it in the game programming industry, at least I can focus my attention elsewhere and still be a programmer.
I've been looking at Carnegie Mellon (currently the only good school I know of) and it offers a great curriculum and pre-college courses (refer to the video game design program), however expensive. Where am I going to get $6k for a program that is only a summer course?
Anyway, reviews on good colleges and experiences with them are greatly appreciated. Are you successful in your career?

Seneca College offers a degree like that.
|
Seneca College doesn't offer any degrees. It looks as though they give you a diploma that will be useful for getting a degree elsewhere and that's really not what I'm looking for. If that were the case, Miami Dade Community College is pretty good and I'd just go there; even they offer Associate Degrees. Many more more schools accept students coming from there than they do at Seneca College. Plus, it's right here next to home.

I was seriously considering that one last night, but their curriculum strictly involves the field you will be going into and that's about it. I don't believe that they have any math, science, or english classes. I'll still keep considering it, though. It does look like it's got everything I need.
By the way, Florida has Disneyworld! |
I know of success stories from Digipen, Full Sail, and the Art Institute. AI doesn't offer programming classes though, but they do offer 3D modelling classes and can put you in the game industry.
