I know accepting donations for fangames is obviously not aloud. But has anyone on BYOND made some serious cash with one of there original rpg's?

Aaiko did with Seika, they had alot of donations and a good sub system, it was like 15$ for a full year, and he had alot of subs. Of course it was not PTP

The fact you don't see a lot of people making money off of BYOND games is probably caused by the following reasons:
1) the vast majority of BYOND games are fangames. Fangames aren't allowed to ask even for donations, let alone a full subscription. I'm not just referring to the games in BYOND Anime here, but also to the non-anime fangames (such as Final Fantasy Legacy, those count too!). 2) the average age of a BYONDer is around 13 or 14 years old. The vast majority of them wouldn't have PayPal accounts, and sadly aren't paying enough attention to learn the language and make a good game. 3) BYOND isn't very well-known. Up until this point, BYOND has only been known through hear-say and because it's listed in directories such as MPOGD (ah, remember those days). 4) most of the minority of games that aren't fangames simply don't meet the standards required to attract players to actually pay for them. I'm sure that once 4.0 gets underway and more advertising is done, more competent players will arrive. That may be interesting to see. -- Data |
