Great idea, that's why nobody under 18 can possibly get into porn sites! Bring on BYOND (as long as your over 15)!

That wouldn't work, all they have to do is lie about their age. Besides from that, it is really unfair to anyone under the age limit.

Children under a certain age shouldn't be on the internet unsupervised in the first place. Getting parental consent first shouldn't be a problem; today's society just doesn't seem to grasp simple concepts such as "pay attention to your children."

Define "unsupervised". I sure as hell know I wouldn't want someone leaning over my shoulder whilst Im on the computer, and I know for a fact my parents have no time to check up on me while Im on the computer for hours on end.

The younger members of the community tend to just play games, with the exception of a few who make/rip their own. It would be too much unnecessary hassle to do all this, and I know plenty of people who wouldn't purchase a membership due to the fact that they cannot create games.

Supervision doesn't have to be constant surveillance, but if you can't take the time to make sure your son isn't looking at some form of deranged fetish website at age 12, there's an issue.

Notice I didn't say put an age restriction on the games themselves. Just making your own. I doubt that most of the anime rips in the Unpublished section are run by anyone over the age of 13.

If you can't trust your child not to look at that stuff, they shouldn't be letting them on the computer.

I noticed, from reading over my post I can see it didn't look like it.

Kid's make rips, and kid's play rips. I say let them be, I honestly don't see why everyone gets so annoyed with them; ignore them.
In response to Dice1989
I don't get particularly annoyed with them, it's just hard to find a good game to play in Unpublished anymore.

Most decent games tend to make themselves noticed amongst the community. And if your looking for a game in particular, we have the guilds.

I do agree that it can be tedious sifting through a bunch of games to find one that looks good enough to play. The guilds however are a good first step.

I have always advocated a overall ranking system for everything. Kind of like the star system on amazon. I know it could be abused but it would be a start.

At times kids may be trusted, but they find something on accident...

And that is when you explain what it truly is.

Lets not forget the problem that everyone spends all their time focusing on BYOND's problems instead of building cool stuff.
No one reply because most games are Naruto, Bleach, Dragonball, Pokemon etc.. Just another rip or remake
Nobody is responding because they know that:
(any combination of these)
A) The person they are going to help, just wants it done for them
B) When the work is done, they will receive no tangible assets in return. (no cash)
C) The person asking for a coder doesn’t know anything about Byond and only wants you to take some source from another game and edit it.
D) The person asking for help has communication problems and unreasonable expectations.
E) You will be treated poorly.

Just from my experience.

If you truly want to hire someone to _help_ you code you should explain in full detail what you need help with. Also, offer some sort of payment, cash is always good, but sometimes a trade works too. Perhaps hosting space, or even a set of icons.

Biggest problem… Poor organization of information. There is a lot of information out there, some of it is just hard to find. DreamMakers is a good blog to find info, but even that is only one of many places and although it is a step up from what we used to have, it unless you go through every article in there, you will probably not know what is there.

We really need an easy to navigate source for all tutorials and information that has been created over the years. Anyone should be able to add to this, and it should be monitored by some sort of staff so content that doesn’t belong there can be taken away. It should have everything including: demos, libraries, code snippets, links to corresponding sections in the reference, and design philosophy information. Something like the Bwicki, but formatted more like an actually wiki.

Here you state kids should barely be monitored and just to block the extremes.

Notice I didn't say put an age restriction on the games themselves. Just making your own.

Here, combined with your previous post, you state that kids need something like making a game on BYOND to be monitored.

OBJECTION!

That's a contradiction, and you're an idiot.

But seriously, stop being so restrictive. The minute of sifting through the unpublished section surely can't be that bad.

It's people like you who can't spell B-Y-O-N-D right. Comeon its not that hard.
BYOND number 1 problem is actually... It's community! Hahaha. Seriously. The BYOND website doesn't really have to offer things such as a listing of online games along with ranks/guilds and whatever other doo-dads it offers. Nor does it need to provide people with forums to talk about stuff, it doesn't even need to provide forums for people to go to when they need help.
But the BYOND website does offer these things to people. And what does it get in return? People BAWWWWWing about it. Some parts of the BYOND community are terrible to say the least. If all the extra parts of the BYOND website were removed (because they are exactly that EXTRAS) then the BYOND website would be an A+++++ nice place to be. But because those parts of the BYOND website exist there is a lot of nasties around.

If the community of BYOND...
1. Used their brains
2. Got it into those brains that the extra features BYOND provides are not a right you are born with to use and abuse as you please but a privilege you are given and should respect.
Then maybe the BYOND website wouldn't have as many problems as it does now!

Also, when I speak about the BYOND community I am not referring to every single member, only those that originate from a specific part of the BYOND website that I wont mention by name but I am pretty sure everyone knows about!

In short. If BYOND has problems and people want them fixed then maybe people should do something about it and not rely on the BYOND staff to fix the problems. Because it is the people who are causing the problems, not the BYOND staff.
