A friend of mine is making a Final Fantasy game called Final Fantasy Army of Darkness. Awhile ago he asked me to help him code it and I agreed. The game was originally going to be turn based. We are now struggling to decide though, wether it should be turn based, or real time.
So for those of you who care, I just wanted to see what the people think. Afterall, it's the byond community that will be playing it so let's hear your opinions!
Turn Based?
or
Real Time?
What do you think?

I haven't really seen much turn-based games around. Most (I think all) Final Fantasy games were turn-based. So, I reckon you should go with that.

Do whatever you feel like.

Maybe do something like Chrono Trigger where you have a delay?
Personally, I think turn based is stupid because it's unlikely your just going to stand still while waiting on your enemy to attack, and real-time is stupid considering you can just attack your enemy and attack and attack and attack at lightning speed.... |

Final Fantasy Seven and Six did the active time battle system which is why I am fond of the games.

The idea with most Turn Based games is not that you stand there while your opponent figures out what todo, but instead it's like Warhammer 40k, where each turn is something like 5-10 seconds on the battlefield, even though the turn might take you 5 minutes to finish.

yes..well if we did real time, you wouldn't be able to attack at lightning speed, that WOULD be stupid. we would make a short delay or meter charge before every attack. Kind of like the battle system in Final Fantasy 12 if you've played that. Where its real time, but there are pauses inbetween attacks while the meter charges.

That's pretty much the way Chrono Trigger did it, like I suggested |
