Ok i am i having a problem with paypal. Every time i type paypal in any search engine I click the link and it says web error.

Sounds like a virus or other malware. I recommend scanning your PC and possibly reinstalling XP. It sounds like the malware is trying to really redirect you to their sites to fake being paypal, but it isn't working, because their site was probably taken down.

Mostly likely it is a simple hosts redirect, but that is a sign of a much bigger problem. I recommend AVG and SpyBot for free detection and potential removal, but the only way to be 100% safe is just to go ahead and reinstall XP.

This sounds very much like what Scoobert (a.k.a. Danial.Beta, who has already replied to this thread!) told me a good few years ago (see: [link]). Try paying a visit to the file at C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts and making sure that the only uncommented line is:

"127.0.0.1 localhost"

Commented lines begin with a '#' character; thus, the only line that doesn't begin with a '#' should be the one listed above (with few exceptions, mostly if you specified them yourself). If you see some dirty tricks planted in there, delete them and save the file!
