Ok, due to issues reformatting my hd, and the fact that i'm unable to find my winxp install disc, i'm without an OS, posting from my phone. When trying to install ubuntu from cds that i had delivered to me forever ago, it keeps stopping at the following:
[ 87.441809] agpgart: AGP aperture is 128M @ 0xe0000000
Without a usable computer, its hard to decipher this and install ubuntu. It would be great if someone could help!

Try turning ACPI off on your motherboard off. It will be in your bios. This probably wont do anything, but it's a good idea to try.
This appears to have been a crippling problem for people who had certain hardware, but has long since been fixed. People who had that problem were fixing it by recompiling the kernel and some modules, which is something you unfortunately can't do.

It pays to have some Linux CDs around that actually boot. :-)
You're probably gonna want to get a more recent version of Ubuntu. The error you mentioned is caused by an access violation to your system's video card. And most instances where it occurs were fixed in recent Ubuntu versions.

Try one of the 8.04 Alphas.

Thanks to all 3 of you (PirateHead, Danlial.Beta), but especially to Nadrew.

I managed to get Ubuntu to install by disabling my ATI video card and switching back to my motherboard's onboard video.
