I took a look in the Code Problems section, found not a single helpful post today, March 17.
I posted a thread with my code problem, and it's been more than 30 minutes with no reply.
Now, I know 30 minutes is not a very long time, but my thread stayed at the top of the thread list for the whole time, telling me, that the BYOND community doesn't like to help other users.
Yet, they always ask for help in the Classified Ads section, which is, in my opinion, the only board that is active nearly 24/7, because there's always the excitement of making a new game.
I may be wrong. Oh well.

Your right, 30 minutes isn't long enough for you to come to that conclusion. Yet, they always ask for help in the Classified Ads section, which is, in my opinion, the only board that is active nearly 24/7, because there's always the excitement of making a new game. What you see in the 'Classified Ads' is a bunch of kids who usually know nothing about creating a game and want others to do it for them. For that reason, most of the topics get ignored. |
You have to remember that the community is populated by a wide variety of people: from teenagers who tend to sneak in from school or wait until they get home to visit the forums, to professionals with real jobs and lives outside the community who generally post only when they have time.
We are also spread out around the world, so different timezones means different posting/lurking schedules. You should not expect your post to be answered no faster than 24 hours. This, in general, gives everyone around the world to atleast see the post in that forum section. And perhaps someone can help. No replies do not mean no-one is helpful. Either no-one has advise for your problem (better than no advice than bad advice), or no-one has had time yet. |
The vast majority of the people here are interested in having someone help them and/or preferably do all the work for them.
Only a few people actually consider trying to help other people. Of those few, most of them aren't ever thanked, and they are frequently insulted for trying to help others who don't agree with their solution. Not to mention the complaints that people here are unhelpful because 30 minutes elapsed on the forum without anyone being helped. I categorize you with the first paragraph. When you stop complaining and demanding help and start offering endless amounts of your free time for the benefit of a bunch of ungrateful people, you'll understand better. |
It proves Digi's point by the fact that it took almost an hour to reply to your misinformed semi-rant.

All the help in Developer How-To and Code Problems is volunteer work. Nobody is sitting there 24/7 waiting to solve all your problems. You'll get help when it comes.
Either be patient and wait or fix it yourself!
