It would be so cool to make byond for the DS or a port for byond. tHE UPPER SCREEN COULD BE USED TO SHOW THE GAME SCREEN. The bottom could b the command, stats, inventory, info, etc. [ screens could be switchable] Its a great combination because the wifi could be used to connect to the byond sites servers, and games. Then a list of online games could be loaded and playable. Just think about it.

Nah! The DS homebrew games suck! The gaphics are horrible. The only good ones are Quake 2 and Halo but those aren't even done yet. Plus you have to do a lot of work to get them up and running.
Conclusion: DS Homebrew games are trash! |

I find fault with your conclusion and the reasoning leading thereto. I've seen quite a lot of good homebrew, with good graphics, for the DS. A large collection of it can be found at pdroms.de. I'll agree there's certainly plenty out there that does suck, but a lot of homebrew is quite good. However, homebrew is scattered about somewhat so I wouldn't be surprised if you've only seen a little of what's out there. However, the DS does have three substantial limitations: Its two 320×240 screens make for a small viewing area, it has a relatively small amount of memory, and it is nowhere near as fast as the platforms currently running BYOND. The engine itself could never run on a DS due to memory requirements. That kills the whole idea right there. In addition, games would have to be more or less specifically designed for the DS; even if we used skinning features in this environment, it'd be quite limited. The idea that BYOND games--which run in an interpreter--could run well in this environment, let alone be made to look good, is naive (even though it'd be awesome). I'd really love to be able to play BYOND games on the DS of course, but it's just not realistic. Lummox JR |

You're talking like. A version of DS for the DS. It just can't work.
On a more serious note, we don't even have a Linux DS, so don't expect a Dream Seeker for consoles. |
Just to let you know, "they" would be Lummox.
Yes, it would be cool to have a version of BYOND for DS. Thing is, it's never going to happen. And before you say "never is strong words", I'll repeat, it's never going to happen. Of course, nothing is stopping you from creating your own BYOND like program for DS that allows for rapid creation of multi-player games. |
Just use DSLua, personally, I think it is much easier to learn than DM is. Also, networking isn’t too hard; I wouldn’t mind helping you out with that section. The only problem, which is very small, is that the program is no longer updated, so it doesn’t support the nice new features that Lua for the PSP has. Hopefully one day the program will be released as open source in which the community can provide updates. But until then, it shouldn’t stop you from creating something good.

Basicaly remake the whole thing. "They" is an underfunded two-man staff supporting the existing software and the website. Neither one has the capability or desire to redo the whole project from scratch, nor would it be remotely possible to do on that platform even if it was built from the ground up and optimized as much as possible. I suppose that post was actually directed at me as understood from the content, and also seeing as Mecha Destroyer also got confused by my little pun/joke (when I said DS for Linux I meant Dream Seeker, same initials you see, how clever of me).

Well, I knew about DD; I only mentioned DS. But I mainly meant that even if it was somehow possible to make Dream Seeker for a console, it would be a lower priority. Tom hinted he will try to make Dream Seeker more Wine-able, and I suppose this is good enough and at least doesn't require major rewrites/work. Kaioken, conqeuror of the universe, savior of the lands, defeater of all that is evil, solver of paradoxes and eater of pies |
Or just refer to the Nintendo DS as NDS. :P

Yea thats true. BUT i'm not that good of a progrmmer yet. I'm not a beginner, but not good enough to make a program that has the qualities of Byond. We can hope that someone sucessfully tries to remake a ds version for it.

Repeatedly everyone has said BYOND program will never be on the DS. Even Lummox JR, a BYOND staff, had this to say, “They is an under funded two-man staff supporting the existing software and the website. Neither one has the capability or desire to redo the whole project from scratch, nor would it be remotely possible to do on that platform even if it was built from the ground up and optimized as much as possible.” The BYOND program that you use will never be on the DS, if you really want to create games for it then learn C, C++, or as I previously stated, DSLua. |

No.
If you really want to play some games created by everyday people look up DS Homebrew.
