Well, i was just thinking that the new rules are pain in the eye. I mean, really. Naruto games... well people make games and naruto is copyrighted... Thats the same as if people make "My naruto website" stuff.
OR did you make these rules because no one plays action and rpg games? I havent seen any non anime game with 40+ players. BAH not even 10 players.
Please do not delete this topic. I want other peoples opinions on this matter.
PS. "copyrighted material" games should be allowed as long as there is no charge to play them or to get boosts.

On the contrary, CA has been seeing fairly steady activity. Only now the deluge of posts is gone so people can actually find and respond to posts of interest, instead of new posts getting instantly buried by other new posts. Lummox JR |

Better to have classified ads containing a few quality posts which can get legitimate responses than having the forum jammed full of "build my game for me" posts, which typically get flamed, and push the legitimate posts out of view where people won't see them. The vast majority of the people seeking a crew to build their game for them, because they're simply too lazy to learn any skills on their own, are people making fan games. You get rid of the fan games posts, and you get rid of most of the problem. Also the possible exchange of money for services dealing with someone else's copyrighted material, as has been stated before, is a dicey issue. We'd rather avoid it here. And finally, quoting an earlier comment: If you don't want to alienate any new users, ...you have to remove the stupidity that is Classified Ads. If it was actually used properly for it's task, instead of mindless "I need code to do all the work" or "I need "iconner" to do work" than you'd be taking a step forward. That forum is going to waste, the very few actual serious replies posted probably go unnoticed. As far as I'm concerned, that situation has been solved with the new rules. If that means you and a few other people can't ask for help for your fan games, well, its worth it. |
Check out the design forums in BYOND Anime. They have some forums there which cater to the needs of Anime game developers.

well...so posts like "Make me a game and you be gm" should be removed or closed. But serious topics like "I will pay a pixel artist to help in my Uber title game graphics."

This is what happens now (and what happened before the rule change, it's just that the mods sometimes had trouble keeping up, since we had to read practically every post to weed out the good from the bad). Since you usually need to contact the artist (or the perosn needing the service) anyway, it should be a no-brainer that you can talk about the specific anime outside the forums. We'd just prefer you don't mention copyrighted material witin your post. The changes save BYOND from potential legal headaches *and* relieves the mods from the daily (if not hourly) pruning of "Make me a game and you be gm" posts. The required use of the template makes the section look more useful and, I dare say, more professional. |

The new rules are in place mostly to reduce massive clutter. CA had basically become a "Make my game for me" forum and it was change the rules or get rid of it. Fan games in particular were the worst of that lot. But it could also be said that the forum's vaguely businesslike orientation makes fan-derived works unfit to be there. Foomer could probably articulate any other reasons better than I could.
They're allowed; they're just not allowed in the Classified Ads forum.
