I think this will be a huge step forward in killing games that are copied work of other.
How it will work:
Every Month there is awards given out for:
Best Story Game of June:
Best Anime Game of June:
Game of the Month:
Host of the Month:
So on...
(The winner is decided by vote counts of the players)
(The winners are announced on pagers and on Byond site maybe with a little trophy <_<)
What do you think ?

That would be a cool feature. Putting trophies on the games page. But I think it would be to easy for people to put fake trophies on there game page though. But if there would be a way to not allow them to do so then it would be a wonderful idea.
But , I think if they were to do this it would be a couple months before the release it. ~TaintedSoul707~ |

It would be hard to fake it if the trophy was in an inaccessible part of the page.

Maybe just noticing it on the front page or a seperate page to go along with the tab at the top would work though

Isn't this just the same idea as "Rankings", and we all know how that failed terribly.

Domeday, there is nothing keeping you from hosting your own awards. Nobody can stop you from hosting your own awards.

Post this in "BYOND Features" If you want them to seriously take this trophy suggestion into account which I think is a great idea, just like ranking it mentally makes developers want to make a better game. Who doesn't love competition? It drives us to be better than we really should.

Aaiko/Iccusion Entertainment proved we can't have rankings without someone exploiting them. This whole thing would just be a big stressful time sink with everyone giving perks and bonuses for votes.
You already knew this, Foomer. |

Then don't base it on player input. I had a similar idea not long ago, but it was BYONDguilds-based, annual and far more official than this. Still, it met mixed reviews. The main problem seems to be that the games that would win the awards and recognition are already spotlighted in the main guilds, and would not contribute anything much to the community. I argued it would motivate people to finish projects in time for the awards, and to up the quality in hopes of taking home a trophy, but I can see their point. The ones who would put the extra effort in are already putting it into their games or the community. An award won't motivate the people who don't care to make quality games, which would be the main point of the whole thing.

just make the awards so that no fan games can win them, or make one category for like "Best Fan Game" and then make all the other ones apply only to original games. Then the awards would actualy mean something and be worth voting on
most original best gameplay best graphics etc, awards that could, and should really only be applied to original games in the first place |

If you want to make awards, you don't need anything special to do it. Just create a fancy award picture, preferably one which uses a clever combination of image editor filter to achieve. On that award, and also modified by several filters, would be the name of the game which won the award, the date when it was awarded, maybe a screenshot from the game, etc...
If the award has text referencing the recipient of the award on it, its much, much harder to fake. Plus, it feels much more meaningful to the person receiving the award. After that, just find games that worthy for one reason or another and give them a version of your award which is customized for their game. If they like it, they can post it on their hub page somewhere. It would also be good to host your award pic somewhere so they can link to it if they don't have server space to work with. When its a user giving out their own awards, then they can set the standards for who gets one and who doesn't. If you only give your award to games which really deserve it (and not to games which only get it by default because there were only 2 submissions to a contest and one of them broke the rules) then your awards will be much more prized, because everyone will know that only genuinely cool and worthy games get that award. |

A better plan would be to build a web page for each award given out that can be linked to from the award image itself, stating who won the award, why and when. Then you won't have to worry about fakes stealing your award pic for nefarious purposes.
