The most addicting game i played is samurai warriors series especially empires.
I was addicted to the Tales series (ex: Tales of Symphonia) for a while, due to the story.

I heard about that game and was tempted to play it

Kingdom Hearts 2
I got addicted to BioShock, Mass Effect, and Assassin's Creed shortly after I got them all.

[Edit]
Also, Halo 3 wasn't particularly fun. Multiplayer is good, I suppose, but I don't play multiplayer too often, as I don't have, or want, Xbox Live. I still feel that best game in the series was the first, by far.

Beh, the gameplay in assassins creed is awsome, but the way they break it up with the boring half-interactive story scenes ruined it for me
Call of Duty 4
The single player mode is short, but very well done.
More importantly, the multiplayer via XBOX Live is super addicting. So many things to unlock, so many challenges to beat.

On a stranger note, I've noted an influx of overt racists this year on XBOX Live. Nothing thrills me more than to degrade them for degrading someone based on their skin pigmentation while simaltaneously knifeing them with my "Night Angel" class, which of course I outfit with a silencer and a UAV Jammer, just to drive them crazier.

If that doesn't work, nothing makes a crazed racist angrier than switching to a class with juggernaut (at the very least, it forces them to complain about something new).

Until now, I wondered if I was the only person on the planet who was bored by Assassin's creed.

Eh, the COD4 unlocks were too easy in my opinion, I unlocked pretty much all of them in about 2 days while I was still learning how to play the game. The challenges on the other hand take a while, and some of them are insanely hard, but you dont even get anything for completeing them so I dont really see the point lol. I've been playing BF2142 for several months and still havent reached max rank

The game itself isnt boring really, just the story, 90% of the cutscenes are completely uneventfull, just 2 people standing around talking for 10 minutes where you have control to walk around but nothing else... I think the entire game would have been better if at the beggining they were just like "HERES YOUR 9 TARGETS, HAVE AT IT!"

That was sort of how I felt about it. Once I got my timing right I could fight off guards indefinitely.

I really liked running around but it felt like it was the only decent part of the gameplay.

The story just wasn't that interesting to me. Altair seemed like a tool from the beginning. The ending of his story was so obvious from the start that I couldn't bring myself to believe he didn't see it coming.
GameCube has Donkey Konga: Jungle Beat (the side-scroller where you use Bongo drums to control DK).
Metroid Prime 1+2 were great games. Battalion Wars for the GameCube was awesome. Metal Gear Solid 3 for the PS2 sucked me right in. Star Wars: Republic Commando for the XBOX/PC was probably the best Star Wars game to date.

2142 is definitely a fun game -- more so with some friends using VOIP. Me, my brother, and a buddy of mine usually squad up and do pretty well. Shoot your soldier name my way and I'll send you buddy invite, maybe I'll see you in there some time.

Aside from 2142 which I've been addicted to for almost a year now (I think), I also really enjoyed Resident Evil 4 for GameCube/PS2.

Rock Band was addicting. I don't own it, but I played it several times and was sucked in pretty quickly. Fun with friends.
